This week’s Ausiello Report has some intriguing news about Ugly Betty’s move to NYC, and three of the cast members:
Question: Is it true that Eric Mabius is refusing to follow Ugly Betty to New York next season? — Kendall
Ausiello: Not true at all. Mabius will definitely be making the trek. Can’t say the same for one of his co-stars. This unnamed individual, who just purchased a new home in L.A., is showing some resistance to the move. As a result, this series regular may only make occasional guest appearances next season. Meanwhile, another Betty thesp is using the coast-hop as leverage for more money — and it’s the last person you’d think.
OK, just to make sure we’re all together on this, there are three separate people discussed here.
* First, Ausiello lets us know that all is well with Eric Mabius. (Silvio told us that yesterday as well). This is interesting, because HE’S the one with a baby and one on the way.
* Next, comes the unnamed regular who just bought a house and may only make guest appearances next year.
* Finally, a cast member is using the move to ask for more money (and who wouldn’t?) Of course, Ausiello is coy about who it might be.
My guess? I think the regular who will be dropping to a co-star could be Ashley Jensen Or Ana Ortiz. I know there has been news of America Ferrera buying a house in LA, but come on! I know Becki Newton and Michael Urie live very close to one another, but I thought they were condo owners. I would imagine the two older cast members (Tony Plana and Judith Light) are already established in houses. Mark Indelicato is too young. Maybe some of you with insight into the Los Angeles real estate market could chime in.
The one asking for more money? My guess is Mark Indelicato. He makes $460K (and sees a $50 a week allowance). Although that money would go a long way in my neck of the woods, I would imagine that setting up residence in NYC would take a huge chunk out of that.
So what do you think? Who is going to move to “guest star” status, and who is asking for more money?
Anna in Salt Lake City: I need some Ugly Betty scoop. I am personally a huge fan of a Betty-Gio hookup. Any hints as to when or if that is going to happen?
I can tell you that Ugly Betty is taking the Henry-Betty-Gio triangle down to the wire. One of the boys proposes in the finale, and the other one invites her to travel with him. In true TV fashion, at the end of the episode, we have no idea whom she leaves with, and we'll have to wait until next season to find out. Also, big stuff coming for Daniel in the UB finale. He'll lose something very important to him, and in a cosmic, karmic exchange, rediscover a part of his life he never knew he had.

How to turn Ugly Betty around next season:
Ugly Betty definitely avoided the sophomore slump, but something was missing from the show's post-strike episodes. Elements that made the first season great were left out of the second part of season two. Fortunately, Ugly Betty only needs to make some small changes to return to its former glory. Feel free to add your own suggestions to my list.
Bring Cliff back - It's nice to see Marc do something besides taunt Betty or do Wili's bidding. Season one's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" proved that Marc has a heart, and his relationship with Cliff continued to explore that sensitive side. Marc found love by looking beyond surface beauty, which is what the show is all about. The post-strike episodes favored Betty's love triangle at the expense of the other characters' relationships. Why have so many well-written relationships if you're only going to focus on one or two? The fantastic ensemble cast had better get more screen time in season three.
More time at Mode - This will be a lost easier to accomplish, now that Wilhelmina Slater has returned to the Mode offices. "Jump," the season two finale, reminded me that random Mode silliness, like a charity softball game with the staff of Elle, leads to a lot of hilarious moments. Season one featured these storylines more often, while this season had a lot of scenes that took us out of the Mode world (I thought that Betty's Wicked field trip would never end). I'd like to see more episodes like "Secretaries Day" and "Fey's Sleigh Ride" (my all-time favorite). Both episodes relied heavily on the Mode characters for humor, but still had plenty of solid away-from-the-office scenes.
Give Gio a chance - I understand that Betty probably chose herself at the end of this season, but that shouldn't take Gio out of the running for good. Season two gave us dozens of reasons why Gio was a better match for Betty than Henry was. I can't imagine that the writers would build up so much support for Betty and Gio and not follow through on it. My main concern is that the third season will leave things up in the air for a while before letting the romance develop. I'd rather see Betty and Gio go out on a date ASAP.
Give us villains that we can root for - Even Wilhelmina needs a break sometimes. Alexis hasn't been consistently evil--she can't decide if she's a villain, a loyal member of the Meade family, or a vulnerable transgendered person. Since the show is part telenovela, I'd like to see more characters that love to be bad. Nick Pepper was a reliable jerk, but he might get phased out along with Rebecca Romijn, who plays his boss. Jayma Mays' Charlie was more of a pain in the butt than a villain. I'm ready for Betty to have her own worthy adversary, like the Meades have Wili. This is where Lindsay Lohan could really shine next season. We already saw her being horrible to Betty in a flashback, so why not make her a grown-up mean girl? Ideally the show's newest villain would be a series regular, but Lohan would be a step in the right direction.
Keep up the Betty-Claire interaction - One thing that I loved about season two was the relationship between Betty and Claire Meade. I've always thought that Claire was a perfect mentor for Betty; Betty even confessed that she admired Claire's life and career. In many ways, Claire took the place of Sofia Reyes this season (before Sofia betrayed Daniel, of course), giving Betty advice and tough love. The scenes between Judith Light and America Ferrera are always genuinely touching. Both actresses totally get the show and know how to pull off the positive dialogue without being too cutesy.
Get back to basics - I fell in love with the show's message of acceptance and loving yourself as you are. This theme was present during season two, but it didn't get as much attention this time. There were exceptions, of course. Justin went through a rough identity crisis during his mourning process, and Marc learned to love someone who wasn't his usual type. After "Zero Worship," however, the message was replaced with baby drama and relationship issues. Yes, the show has soapy content, but the overall theme is what makes Ugly Betty stand out. I can watch love triangles and melodrama on many other shows; I love Ugly Betty for its positive message.

Ugly Betty - TV Guide Preview:
Ugly Betty's Christopher Gorham tells TV GUIDE that he will be staying behind when the rest of the cast starts shooting in New York next season.
"The show is moving, I am not," he said at the SKYY Vodka screening for "Sex and the City" on May 29. So what does this mean for Betty (America Ferrera) and Henry's on-again, off-again romance? Though Henry came back to Tucson to propose to Betty, it doesn't look like she'll be accepting the ring, at least for now. But does that mean Betty will go with Gio (Freddy Rodriguez) on a date...to Rome? Stay tuned!
Source: TV Guide
It would appear that at least one piece of the Ugly Betty love triangle is settled. One of the actors who plays one of Betty’s star-crossed lovers Henry and Gio, has told TV Guide that he won’t be moving to New York:
“The show is moving, I am not,” he said at the SKYY Vodka screening for “Sex and the City” on May 29.
I’ll tell you which one in a minute, after a jump.
I wonder what this will mean for the show, considering the nastiness that happened in May in every corner of the Ugly Betty web universe. People chose sides, and drew some pretty hard lines. The Benry/Getty wars made the US presidential race look like a campfire rendition of Kum-ba-yah.
One side is going to be very disappointed (although I’m pretty sure Betty is going to be single when we catch up with her in September).
So, who isn’t moving to New York? Answer after the jump.
Ugly Betty - Michael Urie and Becki Newton Interview:
Lucky for me then that Michael Urie and Becki Newton, the players who bring us the awesomeness of Marc and Amanda, had time at the Monte Carlo TV Fest in Monaco to talk about their characters, their missing boyfriends and father figures, the big move to New York and what really keeps these two trapped at their desks. Click in for the goodies!
Will we see more of Marc's boyfriend Cliff, and will Amanda have more Gene Simmons moments?
Michael Urie: They don't tell us anything because they know we will tell you, but I'm told that Cliff will be coming back, and there will be more storylines between us. We haven't seen him for awhile, so I'm assuming that everything's good.
Becki Newton: As far as the Gene Simmons storyline, I think for now it's closed since we found out he's not Amanda's father.
M.U.: Maybe he's Marc's father?
How is the house hunting in New York going? Are you still determined to live next door to each other?
M.U.: On her couch, if I can. I haven't even started.
B.N.: The move to New York is very sudden. We've only known for maybe a month. Fortunately, I have lived in New York and maintained a residence, so my house hunting is going really well.
M.U.: I haven't even started looking. I'll probably stay with Vanessa Williams, but she'll put me to work. I've been traveling for three weeks, so I guess I'll start [looking] on Friday.
Which guest stars would you like to see next?
M.U.: It's very exciting that we're moving to New York for lots of reasons. We had great guests stars in L.A. for sure, but now that we're in New York we'll have theater actors that really get the style and over-the-top essence of the show.
B.N.: I think also because New York is really where the fashion world exists, where there are certain cameos where people play themselves that add to the reality of the fashion world, I think there will be a lot more opportunities for people like Naomi Campbell or models to appear as themselves, which makes Mode appear more like a real magazine.
Will your characters graduate from being assistants next season?
B.N.: I don't think Amanda will ever get promoted.
M.U.: And I don't think Marc will ever take a job that's not the bidding of Wilhelmina. So no promotions.

Ugly Betty Spoiler!:
Wow. I’ve been fretting because Ugly Betty news has been hard to come by today, so I thought I’d see if there were any new fan videos at YouTube. A search for Ugly Betty brought up an interesting entry: Reading for ‘Holly’ on “UGLY BETTY” .
OK, interest piqued. I checked it out: it was a reading by actress Heidi Marnout for a part on Ugly Betty. Once she started talking, I knew this wasn’t some leftover material from seasons 1 or 2. Just watch for yourself (WARNING - Season 3 SPOILERS)
Embedding is disabled, but you can view the video here (http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=YBqpcvz5rrA)
This is a pretty awesome storyline, I think. I’ll discuss after the jump.
So, Daniel is going to be fighting his son’s French grandparents for custody. I ALWAYS love a good courtroom scene. So, I guess this means that we know what Daniel’s going to be doing in the early part of season 3.
I love that he seems to be fighting for his son, and actually taking responsibility for the first time in his life. I really think that Daniel will mature this year.
Y’all let me know if the video gets pulled.
So, what do you think of this development?

America Ferrera was a busy little bee yesterday on the set of Ugly Betty. She had time to sip an ice tea, chat with co-star Ashley Jensen, and to walk across 28th Street in New York City to enter her fictional apartment while filming a scene. But the best thing that America made time for was a sweet hug for a little girl who was a fan of the show. Aw, that is just adorable - we love it when celebs take time for their fans. Our intrepid photographer Christopher Peterson is bringing us these awesome fotos from yesterday - good job Christopher, we love them.

Ugly Betty, Harpers Island - Casting News
"Betty" regular Christopher Gorham has been tapped to star on CBS' midseason drama "Harper's Island."
The CBS Par-produced "Island" is a serialized horror story about a group of friends who meet on an island off the Seattle coast for a destination wedding.
Gorham will play the groom-to-be, whose name, ironically, is Henry, which was also the name of his character on "Betty."
On ABC's "Betty," the rivalry between Henry (Gorham) and Gio (recurring Freddy Rodriguez) for Betty's (America Ferrera) heart culminated in the second season finale where the final scene showed Betty seemingly making her choice, but the lucky guy was not revealed.
Gorham won't return to "Betty," and Rodriguez, who has a few features lined up, is not expected to come back for more than one episode, which means new love life for Betty.
She is not expected to stay on the sidelines for long -- hunk Val Emmich was just cast as recurring character Jesse, a new love interest for Betty.
Gorham first appeared on "Betty" as a guest star in the fall of 2006. He was quickly recruited as a recurring and later upped to regular.
He is repped by CAA and Rigberg Entertainment.

He does have some actual Ugly Betty casting news (presented in a funny way). Eddie Cibrian will be in at least four episodes, and one scene will most certainly be a bedroom scene with Ana Ortiz!

That means the love triangle between Henry (Gorham) and Gio (Freddy Rodriguez) is over! Hunk Val Emmich will have a recurring role of Jesse, a potential new love interest for our braces-boasting gal.
According to THR, Gorham, 33, will play the groom-to be in Harper’s Island, which is a serialized horror story about a group of friends meet on an island off the Seattle coast for a destination wedding.
Christopher Gorham, who plays the endearing accountant Henry on "Ugly Betty," has left the show to co-star on CBS' midseason drama "Harper's Island."
The serialized horror story revolves around a group of friends who meet on an island off the Seattle coast for a destination wedding. Gorham will play the groom-to-be, also called Henry.
On ABC's "Ugly Betty," the rivalry between Henry and Gio (Freddy Rodriguez) for Betty's (America Ferrera) heart culminated in the Season 2 finale where the final scene showed Betty seemingly making her choice, but the lucky guy was not revealed.

prima puntata 25 settembre?
America Ferrera, Rebecca Romijn, Eric Mabius and Judith Light on the set of 'Ugly Betty' filming on Centre St. New York City, USA - 25.07.08:
Silvio Horta Previews Ugly Betty's Coming Season:
Ugly Betty didn't have its own session at this Summer's TCA press tour, but executive producer Silvio Horta did stop by ABC's showrunners panel (delivering one of the best lines of press tour in the process).
Afterwards, a few other reporters and I huddled with Horta to find out what's on tap for season three of Betty. While he didn't, you know, reveal which guy Betty chooses, he still had a lot to say about Betty's growth, Lindsay Lohan's arc, and what will become of Hilda and the coach. Curious to see what he had to say? Just read more.
* The season premiere is going to be a doozy. "There's so much that happens in the first episode that sets up the rest of the season," Horta said.
* The theme of the third season is growing up. "[Betty's] lost some of the focus that she had when she started this job," Horta said. "She's going to make this commitment to do certain things and act as a grownup. There's going to be some big changes in her life."
* As for Lindsay Lohan, she'll be there as a contrast to Betty, a mean girl from high school whose life has taken a turn for the worse (burger-flipping style). "Lindsay brings a reputation, but I've always loved her," Horta said. "From Parent Trap to Mean Girls to Freaky Friday, she delivers."
* With Patricia Field now in charge of the show's wardrobe after its move to New York, Betty is going to get a little more fashionable. But just a little: "She's still going to have her braces and her glasses, but if she didn't at least try to change . . . she's worked at the magazine for two years!" Horta said. "But she doesn't necessarily have the best eye for fashion. She's going to screw up a bit."
* New York also means more real players from the fashion world are likely to turn up on the show: Horta said Dolce and Gabbana already wants to be involved.
* Will Amanda ever find her father? "Maybe," Horta said coyly. He still likes the idea of exploring the background of Amanda's character: "We just see the girl who's in the circular desk. What's she doing here? How did she get here?"
* Marc will be getting some more meaty stuff with the return of his boyfriend, Cliff. Yay!
* Things are going to get a little sticky with Hilda and the Coach. His wife will appear at some point, and Hilda's family won't be too thrilled about the relationship, either.
Episode 3.06 - Script Snippet (http://spoilertv.blogspot.com/2008/07/ugly-betty-episode-306-script-snippet.html)
Regis And Kelly To Make Appearance On Ugly Betty:
America Ferrera appeared on Regis and Kelly today, and used the occasion to announce that the hosts, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will appear on Ugly Betty during the season premiere!
Silvio Horta did hint that the season 3 premiere would be huge - obviously if Regis is involved, you know something big is going to happen.
It’s been previously announced that Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, will appear in the third episode. So, at least they get to keep it all in the family.
I think this is a hidden side effect of the show filming in New York: many celebrities who are based in New York can now make guest appearances. Ugly Betty has always had incredible guest appearances. The Big Apple angle just allows the show to have guest that we may not normally see on other shows.
Although, Lindsay Lohan would appear on the show in either coast, I think.
BTW, as soon as it’s available, I’ll try to post video of Ferrera’s appearance on R&K.

Mark Consuelos: Wife Kelly Ripa ‘Psyched’ for His Ugly Betty Role:
Mark Consuelos, who has joined the ranks of such stars as Lindsay Lohan, Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell and Jerry O’Connell in landing a guest spot on ABC’s Ugly Betty, says his wife Kelly Ripa is “psyched” for him, but that hasn’t stopped her from engaging in some friendly husband-and-wife one-upmanship.
“They did an episode last week with her and Regis,” says Consuelos of Ripa, who will make her own Ugly Betty guest appearance on the show’s Sept. 25 premiere. “So she was like, ‘Aw, I did it first. Gotcha!’
Consuelos begins shooting his scenes Aug. 6, and is clearly looking forward to the experience.
“When you see a show that’s that funny,” Consuelos, 37, says of the Emmy-winning comedy. “It looks like they’re having fun. I can’t say I’ve heard anything other than that so I’m excited. I’m a big fan of the show.”
Although he is elated about his new gig, he’s tight-lipped about the role. “I can tell you very, very little,” he says. “One, because they don’t want to reveal too much, and two, because I don’t know much. I can say he’s a detective. Right now it’s only one episode that we know of, which I’m thrilled about.”
One reason Consuelos (who is of Mexican and Italian heritage) is a fan of the series, about Betty Suarez’s experience at work and with her close-knit New York City clan, is that it offers a positive portrayal of Latinos.
“Whenever there are more of us on [television], I’m always really, really happy,” he says. “It represents America in a realistic way. We had a mainstream Latin family on All My Children. George Lopez was another on ABC with a Latin family that I thought was great. But I’m always hoping for more. And you can never have enough. I say keep it coming.”
The chance to work close to home on the Queens set of Ugly Betty was also another major selling point. “I’ve worked in Canada, Australia, Los Angeles,” he explains. “But anytime you can work in the city, it’s a real plus. You can be home by dinnertime.” –Ivory Jeff Clinton

Dan in Las Vegas, Nev.: Is Christina really going to give birth this season on Ugly Betty?
Things aren't looking too good for expectant mother Christina (Ashley Jensen), who is going to suffer a tumble down a flight of stairs. Luckily, hottie Mark Consuelos will be a detective on the case, and his first piece of evidence: Size 11 shoeprints are found at the scene of the scene of the crime. Whose shoes? Well, I'm hearing this might be the way that the very tall and presumably podiatrically endowed (and yes, I am making up words here) Alexis Meade, aka real-life mother-to-be Rebecca Romijn, exits the show

New special Guest Star:
Emmy-winning suds vet Heather Tom, who's currently giving her tear ducts a workout on The Bold and the Beautiful, will be moonlighting on Ugly Bettythis fall. She'll play a State Department liaison to Daniel's long-lost son in at least three episodes. I'm going to venture a guess that Daniel Sr. will want to, ahem, liaise with her as well.

Ugly Betty - Latest from Kristin
Allison in Manchester, N.H.: OK, I admit it. I love Lindsay Lohan. Can you tell me anything about her gig on Ugly Betty?
Lindsay Lohan appears in the season premiere and then in episodes five and six, which they're just now beginning to shoot. According to Ms. America Ferrera herself, "Lindsay gets down and dirty, and there's food involved when she gets down and dirty..." Added Mark Indelicato, "There were milkshakes thrown. I had pizza on me. It was pretty gnarly. Lindsay was a good food fighter. She and America were really going at it-throwing rolls at each other-it was so funny." As for another one of our faves, expectant mother Rebecca Romijn, America said, "She's in a lot of the first episodes-you'll see her, and you'll hopefully not see her growing."
Judy in Renton, Va.: Ugly Betty, baby!
According to Ana Ortiz, "I've shot a lot about my whole relationship with the Coach (Eddie Cibrian), and we've gotten Betty a new apartment." Mmm...wonder if the new digs come with a new man?

The Starter Wife - Eddie Cibrian Casting News:
This certainly doesn't bode well for Hilda's romance with Coach Diaz on Ugly Betty.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Eddie Cibrian is heading to USA Network's The Starter Wife for a three-episode arc. He'll play a detective who investigates some strange goings-on in Molly's (Debra Messing) life.
Starter Wife kicks off its first official season on Oct. 10; look for Cibrian to first appear around the eighth episode.
Getting back to the matter at hand, what does this mean for Cibrian's role as Ana Ortiz's hot new squeeze on Betty? As I reported last month, Cibrian was only committed to appear in four episodes this season. And Betty recently wrapped its fourth episode. And Cibrian's now on a new show. And... do I have to spell it out for you?! Sheesh.

Ugly Betty - Latest from Kristin:
Jessica in Auburn, N.Y.: Any hot scoop on the hot men of Ugly Betty?
According to Ana Ortiz: "There's somebody new coming to Mode, some new, hot guy, and they won't tell me who it is." New, hot Mode guy has not been cast yet, but I get the feeling Hilda might be on his romantic radar once he shows up.

Lindsay Lohan dons a cheerleader’s outfit on the set of Ugly Betty at a high school in New York City’s Queens earlier this week.
The 22-year-old actress just blogged from the Ugly Bety set in an entry titled “The Boy Who Cries Wolf” (referring to her father):
“Just going to put it out there, I have had no contact with my father. And I hope he uses this time to keep mourn the loss of his father, rather than taking the time to talk to the media about me or anyone in my life. [It’s] better he just keeps his mouth shut.
“On another note-I’m having fun on the set of Ugly Betty, the cast is great, the crew is great, and it’s nice to be at work, doing what i love to do!”

Adriana Lima to Sizzle on Ugly Betty:
http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/9660/adrianalima320oc6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Brazilian super model Adriana Lima will break into the fashionable world of Mode magazine when she makes her acting debut on an upcoming episode of Ugly Betty.
“Adriana has always been a huge fan of Ugly Betty and is thrilled for the opportunity to make a guest star appearance,” says Lima’s rep Liza Anderson.
On a future Betty (returning to ABC Sept. 25, 8 p.m. ET), Lima will be hired to pose on the pages of Mode’s “sizzling hot issue” and will work with Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) on a cover story about the virtues of exotic fruit, including the fictional “tico berry,” which the Vicoria’s Secret model — playing herself — will credit as a booster to her sexy appearance.
But in a twist right out of Betty’s madcap world, Lima, 27, will sport a broken finger from a real-life fall she suffered while on vacation in Croatia.
Lima starts filming next week. – Bryan Alexander
