Exclusive: P.I. Lucas to Be New Love Interest for Cuddy on House

Sources tell me the new character on House, private detective Lucas, has a crush on one Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein)! Apparently, love, like Legionnaires' disease, is an infection that travels through the air—and the contagion is spreading through Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital!

As you may remember, Lucas (played by Six Feet Under's Michael Weston) is the character being introduced for a multiepisode arc this season to act as a foil for the doctors and possibly be the main character in a House spinoff. In the meantime, however, it looks like he's going to be another side in the love polygon surrounding Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie).

Is it just me, or is charming, blue-eyed rogue House not going to take too kindly to some charming, blue-eyed rouge moving in on his very favoritest hottie hospital administrator?

It's OK, though, because if you ask me, persnickety and passionate House is the best kind of House there is. What do you think of this development? Do you think jealousy will finally drive House to declare his intentions to Cuddy? Post your take in the comments!

Intervista a David Shore:
SEASON FOUR of "House" was so tumultuous, both on camera (a competition to find new members of House's team ran for more than half the season) and off (the strike shut down production for months) that you'll forgive the show's creator, David Shore, if he has trouble remembering exactly what happened by the end of it.

"I forget," he admits. "I've been working on it for so long now. It's not like a usual year."

Reminded that we left off with Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) blaming House (Hugh Laurie) for the death of his girlfriend -- and one of the failed finalists for House's team -- Amber (Anne Dudek), the lightbulb clicks for Shore, and he begins rattling off details of how season five (debuting on Sept. 16) will continue those stories. Specifically:

# They will follow up on the House/Wilson split "in a funny but realistic way." Though he acknowledges the Laurie/Leonard chemistry is too good to keep the friends apart for very long, "the journey's really cool. We learn something about Wilson, we learn something about House, and we learn something about their relationship."

# Shore admits that "we under-utilized" original team members Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and Chase (Jesse Spencer), who became glorified extras for much of last season, even though their characters were re-assigned in the hospital with the best of writerly intentions.

"The notion was that they would be coming back in different capacities in the hospital, and therefore come back with a greater gravitas, and have a different relationship with House; and that would be refreshing. As little as we used them -- again, we would have liked to use them more -- I really did like the use we made of them. They would come in for only a scene or two an episode, but those scenes had a greater weight."

Shore says finding ways to use Morrison and Spencer more in season five is still "a work in progress," but has plans for Foreman (Omar Epps) to bring them a case, independent of House. He plans to follow-up on Cameron's comment that she missed being on House's team, even though she didn't miss House himself.

# In season four's penultimate episode, Dr. Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) referred to the mysterious Thirteen (Olivia Wilde) as "Dr. Hadley," and though House commented at the time that Cuddy didn't know Thirteen's real name, Shore confirms that Cuddy had it right. Just don't expect to hear the name very often.

"No, she's Thirteen. She'll always be Thirteen."

# Early in the season, House will hire a private detective, played by Michael Weston (you may remember him as the guy who carjacked David Fisher on "Six Feet Under"), to break-and-enter into a patient's home, in lieu of having one of his doctors do it. The detective -- "a character that only House could love" -- will stick around for a while, possibly to set up a spin-off that would fulfill one of Shore's TV fantasies.

As he explains it, "I've always loved 'The Rockford Files.'"

Here is a warm nugget to sink your teeth into: Much to the chagrin of House/Wilson fans everywhere, it appears as though the show's cornerstone coupling is breaking up when House returns Sept. 16. Said Hugh Laurie: "Wilson comes to a bigger, broader realization that House is possibly a destructive force in his life; House isn't good for him, and as a result of that realization, Wilson decides to up sticks and leave." Booo! (Still, I'm highly doubtful this breakup is permanent. And by highly doubtful I mean, I have it on good authority.)

Thomas in Rhode Island: Hey, Kristin! What's the deal with the new guy on House? I am particularly intrigued by the new private investigator played by Michael Weston.
So is Hugh. He said of Michael's character: "House is so needy, so desperate, so curious, so unable to leave well [enough] alone that he actually takes the, frankly, unusual step of hiring a private investigator to see how Wilson is faring on his own. Who he's seeing, who he's with, is he happy? Is he not happy? It's an obsessive and frankly narcotic act, but it's a step he takes."

As you know, we found out last season that she has the debilitating genetic disorder Huntington's disease. In the premiere, this will give her a whole new ballsiness and outlook on life, which is pretty cool. We'll also be flashing back to her childhood, when we'll also meet her ill mother, who also suffered and died from the disease.

Breckin Meyer just broke the news to E! that he will guest star on episode three of House this season. Click in to find out what he's up to on House, plus an awesome detail about his Heroes character.

Later this season on House, Meyer will play a Princeton-Plainsboro patient whose disease causes him to get wildly aggressive. (Think Incredible Hulk).

According to a publicist for the studio that produces House, "Breckin guest stars on the show in the coming season as a struggling artist—a painter whose undiagnosed illness distorts his work and his perception, and threatens to undermine his career, his relationship, everything in his life. Of course, this leads House and his team to uncover a much deeper, darker secret beneath Breckin's canvases."

Meyer says, "They can't figure out what's wrong with me. A lot of things go wrong. I blow up like a balloon at one point. I get violent [with] a lady—I get inappropriate."

No matter what happens, I'm sure if there's a girl in a fight at the hospital, House will pull up a chair, whip out some popcorn and sit back to enjoy the show!

Question: How about some non-Huddy House scoop for a change? -- Dani
Ausiello: Could I interest you in something on Thoreman? Never heard of that particular portmanteau? That's about to change, since executive producer Katie Jacobs tells me that a major, potentially romantic story line involving Foreman and Thirteen will kick off in November when Olivia Wilde's ailing alter ego agrees to participate in a clinical trial overseen by Omar Epps' Foreman. As a result, the pair "are going to be spending a serious amount of time together," reveals Jacobs. Thirteen's leap of faith will follow a tumultuous few episodes in which she has a random hook-up with an unidentified lovergirl (see last week's AA for more on that) and witnesses firsthand the horrors of Huntington's via a patient played by Lori Petty (A League of Their Own). "I don't want to see Thirteen come down with Huntington's," confesses Jacobs, "but I think it's important for the audience to see what she's up against in dealing with [the disease]."
