casting call

The CW Fall Premiere Dates
The CW will kick off its fall campaign on Sept. 8 with the sophomore year of "90210" and the bow of "Melrose Place."
Net has also decided to flop the time slots of its Monday dramas, which will send "Gossip Girl" to the 9 p.m. hour.
It's the second year in a row that "90210" is the centerpiece of the net's fall launch campaign, and CW is hoping that anticipation will be high for the remodeled "Melrose." CW is getting a jumpstart on its competish by launching the week of Sept. 8, but it won't be quite as quick out of the gate as last year, when the net's fall sked launched on Labor Day.
The rollout continues Sept. 9 with the two-hour preem of "America's Next Top Model," followed Sept. 10 by the preem of "Vampire Diaries" and return of "Supernatural."
The Monday slate returns on Sept. 14, though the "Gossip Girl"-"One Tree Hill" slot swap will take effect July 6 with repeat segs. The regular Wednesday slate of "Top Model" and newbie drama "A Beautiful Life" arrives on Sept. 16.
CW's Friday lineup of "Smallville" and "Top Model" repeat will not materialize until Sept. 25. On Friday Sept. 11 and Sept. 18, the net plans to run repeats of its new dramas.
CW will also rerun segs of its new series on Sundays through Sept. 27, when it formally returns five hours of program time to its affiliate stations. CW confirmed last month that it is bowing out of Sunday programming in an effort to strengthen its overall primetime perf (Daily Variety, May 5).
CW also confirmed to its affiliate stations this month that it will give back one hour of its two-hour Monday-Friday daytime block as of the 2010-11 season. At present it programs the 3-5 p.m. block with yakker "The Tyra Banks Show," one original and one repeat seg. As of 2010-11, it will return the 4-5 p.m. hour to affiliates.

Hairstylist Louise Moon (http://louise-moon.blogspot.com/) has posted a few snapshots (Nina, Ian, and herself) from the Greystone Mansion during yesterday’s cast photo shoot (http://www.vampire-diaries.net/tvseries/tyler-lockwood/).
Yesterday I did more press for a show called Vampire Diaries. We worked at Greystone Manor and it was the first time I actually was able to see the inside of the place. Not too bad… Anyways, these kids were really great. They are like a little family already. It is so nice to see.

Information floating around the internet had, until now, been listing Tyler (Michael Trevino) with the surname of ‘Stratton’. While it’s a little sad for some fans that ‘Smallwood’ isn’t being used (farewell, inappropriate jokes), ‘Lockwood’ is a substitute that we feel works well. Without dropping any spoilers, we have to admit that we’re curious to see just how much of the ‘Lockwood’ family history makes its way into the TV series (and how it will be expanded upon). We’re getting more excited about how the mythology in the show will unfold as details from the books come to life.
On the subject of Kevin Williamson on Twitter, we were treated to a few amusing tweets last night from his dinner with Julie Plec, Marcos Siega, and the cast, during which he was ‘harassed’ by Damon (who, it seems, not only likes to steal bread sticks from pretty girls, but also likes to steal fries from innocent producers – the fiend) and posted pictures of Ian Somerhalder and Katerina Graham (http://mypict.me/72DD) and Katerina with Nina Dobrev and Kayla Ewell (http://mypict.me/show.php?id=72V8).
And speaking of photos, the cast had a session with photographer Andrew Eccles (http://andreweccles.com/) at Beverly Hills’ famed (and reportedly haunted) Greystone Mansion (http://www.greystonemansion.org/) yesterday (via Katerina Graham (http://twitter.com/KaterinaGraham/status/2427416670)).

Intervista a Nina Dobrev:
There’s good evidence to suggest that actress Nina Dobrev’s new gig will prove her breakout role. After all, her upcoming teen soap “The Vampire Diaries,” premiering on Sept. 10, comes courtesy of the CW network, which launched the careers of the “Gossip Girl” cast two years ago. And with the popularity of recent projects like “Twilight” and “True Blood,” it seems viewers can’t get enough of fang-friendly fare.
“There’s just something about vampires that’s sexy,” says the 20-year-old Canadian. “It’s the same reason why women go for the bad boy — you want them but you shouldn’t have them.”
Based on the young adult series by L.J. Smith, “Diaries” tells the story of Elena (Dobrev), a popular, happy-go-lucky teen who finds herself caught in a dark love triangle with a pair of “undead” brothers, played by “Lost” alum Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley of “Everwood” fame.
Sound familiar? Some critics think so and have suggested “Diaries” is nothing more than a “Twilight” rip-off, but Dobrev disagrees. “[‘The Vampire Diaries’] was written 15 years before ‘Twilight’ even existed, so this isn’t a show taking advantage of the success of that,” she says.
Still, Dobrev admits comparisons are unavoidable. “Both are about vampires, so there are going to be similarities whether we like it or not,” she says. “ we’re darker than ‘Twilight.’ We’re a little steamier.”
The show also features much gorier special effects, something that’s been a challenge for Dobrev. “I literally pass out when I see blood,” she says. “It’s very inconvenient for what I’m doing.”
Offscreen, Dobrev spends her time hanging out with best friend — and fellow CW talent — “Beautiful Life” star Sara Paxton. “It’s so cool because we get to experience everything, like all the promotional events and photo shoots, together,” says Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria before moving to the Toronto suburbs as a toddler. She seriously pursued rhythmic gymnastics in high school before eventually deciding she wanted to become an actress.
“I didn’t have a stage mom at all,” Dobrev recalls. “I was the one who planned out my auditions and drove myself an hour and a half into the city.” All the hard work paid off when she was cast as a teen mom on the cult Canadian soap “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”
But while for now she can still keep a low profile, Dobrev has gotten a taste of what’s to come if “Diaries” takes off thanks to “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui, her celebrity doppelgänger.
“People tell me that I look like her a few times a day,” says the actress, who doesn’t mind the comparison. “I think she’s gorgeous.”

Intervista a Paul Wesley:
When he was in his late teens, young heartthrob Paul Wesley played his first supernatural being – werewolf Luke Cates in the short-lived 2001 series Wolf Lake, which remains a cult favorite among some. It was a role that seems fitting now, to Wesley, for the age he was then.
“I always associate werewolves … with this kind of instinctive anger,” he says, ” … More like animals with rabies. When I was playing the werewolf, I was like 18 years old, and I think I was just like this teen who was running rampant. And I had a great time, and it fit the character perfectly, this alpha male machismo … and that was me.”
But the Paul Wesley of today, who was at the recent CW presentation at the Television Critics Association (TCA) tour, has obviously grown beyond that. He’s calm, thoughtful, and quietly enthusiastic about his new series The Vampire Diaries — one in which he plays another sort of monster, but a show that looks poised to have more staying power than Wolf Lake. He plays a vampire named Stefan Salvatore, and again it’s a role that seems to be a good fit for where the actor is at in his personal and professional life.
“Vampires,” he says, contrasting with the werewolf role, “Stefan at least … he’s more of a thinker. He’s an introvert, an intellectual, he sits there and writes. There’s more finesse.”
Vampires do occupy a higher chain of command among monsters in pop culture because of their intelligence; werewolves are pretty one-note. In addition to that advantage, Wesley and the crew behind Diaries also have the good timing to be striking while the iron of the Twilight franchise is very hot, and the sex appeal of vampires is again in the forefront of audience consciousness.
Like Twilight, this series is based on books (these by L.J. Smith) and features a vampire in love with a human girl (Elena, played by Nina Dobrev). But it’s got a dash of ‘Salem’s Lot thrown in as well, as executive producer Kevin Williamson’s (Scream) script seeks to explore the undercurrents of evil beneath a small town’s facade, which the arrival of Stefan and his more sinister vampire brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) brings to the surface as they battle for Elena’s soul. For good measure, there’s a bit of Southern Gothic a la True Blood as well (the show is filmed in Atlanta and set in Virginia, with Stefan and Damon having a history dating back to the Civil War).
“Stefan hates being a vampire,” Wesley points out. “He doesn’t want to be a vampire. He’s constantly struggling with the dark side. He has a need to feed on human blood. It’s not easy for him not to do it. He wants to experience life as a normal human being, whereas his brother loves vampirism; he’s enjoying it.”
This conflict and loneliness turns Stefan into the brooding type of vampire we see often in these types of stories, but that archetype seems to have more appeal than perhaps some happy-go-lucky vampire would. And it seems to have always drawn in women particularly, as Wesley has noticed.
“It’s certainly empowering [to play a vampire]. There’s an omniscience. Being a lowly human, it’s nice to play a character who has this omniscience. But it’s so easy to make that one-dimensional. Vampires are flawed, flawed individuals. It’s just that they come off as really stable, and I think that’s what women gravitate towards. Of course, it must be amazing [for vampires to have that power]. But I assume if you’re thousands of years old you’re probably used to women throwing themselves at you.”
Wesley may need to get used to that himself in real life, should the show take off along the lines of Twilight, and with the unique crowd of vampire fans of all ages.. And as a human, that may be a tough adjustment for a man who currently likes to remain fairly under the radar.
“I do everything anonymously,” Wesley says. “I walk around Atlanta and nobody bothers me. I think my whole life would change if this [series] were to take me to a different place. I’m a city boy. I thrive off culture. There’s something about, like, Manhattan (I’m going there this weekend). So walking around and not having anonymity would really take away that experience of being in the city.”
On the series, Wesley won’t even be covered in special makeup effects to help keep him anonymous, either. But that he somewhat likes.
“Makeup’s never fun,” he says. “Nobody wants to show up at 6 in the morning to get makeup. The good news is we don’t have a lot of makeup [for the show]. We have these contact lenses that we put in. I’ve worn contacts my whole life, so it’s not a problem for me.”
Not having been exposed much to vampire stories growing up — but being very interested in mythology — Wesley has found himself researching the myths of vampires. “There’s so much history,” he says.
One element of the mythology of the vampire that Wesley finds a little melancholy is that whole immortality part.
“You know what’s bad about that? Being like a nomad. You can’t really establish relationships with anyone without revealing your secret for more than like a decade before they realize that you’re not aging. So I think Stefan hasn’t been able to establish relationships with anybody, and that’s lonely.”
But Stefan’s loss will be Wesley’s gain, as — like it or not — he should be anything but lonely once The Vampire Diaries reaches rabid CW fans Sept. 10.

Ian Somerhalder Interview
Source:IESB (http://www.iesb.net)
With the vampire craze currently at a fever pitch, the CW is joining the fray by bringing The Vampire Diaries to its network, starting September 10th.
Based on the best-selling books by L.J. Smith and brought to the small screen by executive producer/writer Kevin Williamson, best known for the popular teen series Dawson's Creek and the Scream horror franchise, the series tells the story of 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Degrassi's Nina Dobrev), who is still adjusting to her new life reality, four months after the tragic car accident that killed her parents. As the school year begins, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Fallen's Paul Wesley), who is immediately drawn to her as well. What she doesn't realize is that Stefan is hiding the dark, deadly secret that he's a vampire.
Disrupting the unassuming, quiet lifestyle that Stefan is trying to lead is his older brother Damon (Lost's Ian Somerhalder), also a vampire, whom he hasn't seen in 15 years. The brothers' long, bitter history quickly puts them at odds, when Damon sees a resemblance in Elena to a woman that his brother loved more than a century ago. While good and evil fight for Elena's soul, she is just trying to finish high school.
During a cocktail reception thrown by Warner Bros. Television for the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Ian Somerhalder spoke to press about what make his vampire different from all the others already out there.
Q: How would you describe Damon?
Ian: He's angry. He feels like he's been wronged, very badly, and he wants vengeance and redemption. However, he is lonely. He's the most lonely person I've ever known. Imagine being 170 years old. However old you are, at this point in time, imagine thinking about how much you know about life and quadrupling that, and seeing all the people you've ever known die around you. That probably makes you very cynical and lonely.
Q: How can Damon stay in town and not be discovered, when he actually does attack and kill humans? Do you think it will be too long before they figure out what's going on?
Ian: I think it's not going to be that long. They're coming in pretty quickly and pretty hard, with not trying to hold back too much to keep the audience stringing along. They're coming in fast, with a lot of information and a lot of storylines twisting and turning, and you see very quickly what Damon's thirst for vengeance is. You understand it quickly. And, there's a whole mythology to it, which makes it a lot of fun.
Q: Did you do a backstory for your character? Did they tell you a lot about him?
Ian: Oh, yeah. And, it's intense. Even people who are bad, it all stems from a place. It's coming from a place. When we're good to people, it's coming from a good place. When we're bad to people, it's coming from a bad place. But, we all have a reason for what we're doing, and Damon's is pretty justified. He feels as though he was hurt very badly in the past, and wronged very deeply, so he's ticked off and he's ready for some vengeance. It's going to be interesting. He has reasons for everything he does, so there will be shifts. The whole idea is that Damon has lost all humanity, but we will see different sides of him, as the season starts to play out.
Q: So, in your mind, he's not all bad?
Ian: No. He's a very dynamic, very complicated character. The relationship between Stefan, Damon and Elena is getting away from just this teen soap show. They're very complicated relationships.
Q: Are you really enjoying yourself?
Ian: It's so much fun. That's why he's so fun. Violence and brutality, for me, is never okay. I'm not a violent or brutal person, in the least bit. I'm actually really passive. But, his violence and brutality stems from someplace. Even people who are bad, do it for reasons. The reason why people like the bad boy in a film, a show, a book or a play is because they have so much fun doing what they're doing, while they're doing it. And, there's something that's interesting and enticing about watching someone like that. Even if he's being mean, he's having fun doing it. So, as humans, we're sickly drawn to that, and we're all guilty of it.
Q: Is it the dream job then, to be the kick-ass bad guy?
Ian: It's such a great role. I'm so lucky that I slipped those pills in Kevin Williamson's and everyone's drinks, to make them give me this job. They don't know that. What's great about this show is that Kevin Williamson reinvented television for teens, with Dawson's Creek. He flipped it around. And, this show says that it's okay to be confused, it's okay to be in love, it's okay to be sad, it's okay to feel lost, it's okay to be drawn to something that's dangerous and it's okay to feel all of these things. I'm 30, but looking back when you were in your teens, what a complicated, confusing time. I think this is going to hit on a lot of those elements, with a lot of layers and complicated ways of explaining how to deal with being young.
Q: What is the best part about this character?
Ian: It's just that he's so powerful and he has fun. We, as humans, are drawn to someone, even if he is a complete bastard, because he has fun doing what he's doing. People who have fun doing what they're doing, whether it's good or bad, are still fun to watch. We are weird, when it comes to that. The girls like the bad boy, and the boys like the bad girl.
Q: What is it about vampires, in particular? Why are vampires so hot right now?
Ian: That I don't know. A very big element of it is that Twilight did so well at the box office. But, and this is just completely subjective conjecture, in the last five years, the movie industry, especially with strikes and all these things, has started to fall off the map. It's these big, huge movies, like Iron Man and Batman, that are big comic book series films, that are making these studios all this cash, and the other movies have just fallen to the wayside, which is kind of crazy. The mythology behind vampires was always there, and it's never really gone away, but now you have this market for it. They're fun. There's an element of power. They're sexy, they're dangerous, they're beautiful and there is something that draws you to them. I don't know who can explain it, but it's here, and it's here for awhile. There is something about the non-human of it all, which allows these characters to do things that we can't do, and there's a lot of escapism in that.
Q: How does the relationship between Damon and Stefan change, throughout the series?
Ian: That is definitely to be seen. There are so many elements that are going to dictate that because of the mythology of it all. These two brothers have very different views on life. Damon has decided to not dismiss his heritage, which is, unfortunately, feeding on people. That's what vampires do. It's like if a human being decided to stop eating, essentially. And, Stefan, because of his love for people or just his desire to not have to brutally kill them, has decided not to, which makes it invariably difficult to hang out. And so, there are going to be a lot of twists and turns that are going to illustrate how different they are, and the bouncing back and forth of good to bad and bad to good. There are so many places that they can go.
Q: What's the deal with Elena? Is she a reincarnation of Stefan's true love, or is she a distant relative?
Ian: I've been twist their arms to find that out, but they won't tell us. It's probably better because we'll be married to the ideas of what they give us. And, they're smart enough not to tell actors ‘cause they know that we'll talk to you guys.
Q: Are you going to go back in time to show how Damon became a vampire in the 1800's?
Ian: I think we're going to see bits and pieces of that.
Q: Will there be a lot of action with this role?
Ian: Yeah. I'll be flying on wires and stuff. It's just fun. We'd been working on the top of this building, five stories up. It was high. But, I was on a wire, where I could lean over the edge. I was harnessing my chi and trying not to be afraid, but I was in character and I wasn't even thinking about the fact that I could fall off of that thing. You can't because the wire stops you, but having your body leaning over the edge of something like that is a very strange feeling. We had to shoot an effects shot, where I was jumping off of what looked like that building, but I only had to jump six feet backwards. And, I sat there for 20 minutes, trying to tell my body to jump backwards onto a bunch of pads. It's so counter-intuitive because your body says, "No." They were patient, but it's one of those things where jumping around and doing things that are physically very odd to your body, takes a little bit of time to do.
Q: Are you spending more time in the gym?
Ian: I'm doing lots of gym time. I'm there often. It takes a lot of stamina. Damon feeds off of nothing, but human blood. That's it. He's strong, but there's this element of purity to him. I've changed my diet. Everything is just clean and pure. It's so boring.
Q: Have you noticed a change in your body?
Ian: Oh, yeah. My shape has changed. There's a certain element of being physically very powerful. It's more menacing. And, there's something about a person's physical solidarity. Damon is very much that guy.
Q: Do you and Paul work out together?
Ian: Unfortunately, we only see each other on set. When we're not on set, we're sleeping or in the gym. It's just a matter of feeling good and having stamina.
Q: How is the move to Atlanta, Georgia?
Ian: It's great. I'm from the deep South, so it's great to be there. It's the same air. It's that great Southern air.
Q: When you were a kid growing up, were you into vampires?
Ian: I was. I grew up with Anne Rice. I knew all that stuff. And, there's also this mystique in New Orleans. There's a mystical, vampirial thing about it. It was always there, and it's very underlying there. There's something about it that's really interesting, enticing, dangerous and sexy.
Q: Do you watch True Blood?
Ian: I'm just starting to. I couldn't until I booked this show because I so badly wanted to do that show, and I had a really bad meeting with Alan Ball and I blew it in the room. And, I was so pissed at myself that I just couldn't bring myself to watch that show. Now, I have a really great role on a killer show, no pun intended, and I want to be able to watch it and get into it. I've met all those guys and dig them. Marcos Siega, our supervising producer who's directing a bunch of our episodes and running our show in Atlanta, has worked on True Blood quite a bit, and he's bringing us all these really cool things.
Q: Which role were you up for?
Ian: Sookie's brother, Jason. Ryan Kwanten got the role.
Q: Maybe it's a lucky escape because he is naked in pretty much every episode.
Ian: Oh, really? I already did that for HBO, so maybe I skipped a good one.
Q: Have you seen Twilight?
Ian: I have to be honest with you, I have not seen it, just because I don't want it to influence any ideals of my own performance, by virtue of the fact that there are a lot of similarities. Neither Paul Wesley or myself has seen the film. Not for nothing. It was a very specific reason, just ‘cause I don't want to compare myself to them. I don't even want that in my head.
Q: How do you feel about the comparisons to Twilight?
Ian: I haven't seen the movie because I don't want to subconsciously compare them, but those comparisons are absolutely fine. Their success paved the way for our existence, so I'm not going to complain.
Q: What do you think of people talking about who has the hotter vampires?
Ian: Robert Pattinson is a handsome sucker. He's got every woman wrapped around his finger. Apparently, this guy has the quintessential male role. Every girl in the world wants that guy. So, good for him.
Q: How is Damon going to be different from other vampires?
Ian: Damon does whatever he wants. He goes in the sun. I really want Kevin to write an episode where Damon goes down to the Caribbean for awhile, for some reason. He wears a lapis stone ring that allows vampires to go out into the sun, so he can go chill in the Virgin Islands for awhile and maybe bite some people down there.
Q: Do you think of Damon as being a guy with these powers, or do you ever forget that he's a vampire?
Ian: Oh, yeah. You're not going to see that for awhile, but you'll start to see it when he's around Elena.
Q: How are the make-up and fangs to wear?
Ian: The new fangs that we have just go on our teeth. There's no bridge, so they don't affect your speech patterns at all. I could recite the Gettysburg address, like it was nothing. It's unbelievable how cool it is to do scenes with it.
Q: Would you want to have the immortality of a vampire?
Ian: No way! Life is about the relationships that we have. It's not about just us. It's about our family, our friends, our children. We have a certain amount of time to do things. If you were immortal, it never ends. It just seems like it would be such a lonely existence.
Q: As an actor, what attracted you to playing a vampire?
Ian: Because it's so fun. It's dynamic, in the sense that it's a lot of fun. You have powers that you wouldn't have, as a mortal human being, and that gives you a lot of good things to play with. As an actor, you dream of stuff like that. That's what you want.
Q: Did you read the books that this show is based on, for your character's backstory?
Ian: Well, I started to. I have the books and I'm reading them, but Kevin, (executive producer) Bob Levy and (executive producer) Julie Pec have said that the books are a foundation for the basis of the show. They gave it to Julie and Kevin and said, "What is your vision? Take this to your level." It's not that literal, and I'm sure that will upset a lot of people. But, it's one of those things where this is their vision of this foundation, which is great.
Q: Was there ever anything you were into as seriously as some of the fans of the vampire genre?
Ian: To be honest with you, I did a lot of theater when I was young and I was obsessed with that. But, I grew up on a horse, out in the middle of the woods, so I was really obsessed with understanding the land, tracking animals, fishing and building things. I read a lot and I watched a lot of films, but I was always more into what we were doing as kids, with our horses and our equestrian life and fishing. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, in Louisiana.
Q: Do you still ride?
Ian: I do. Not as much as I'd like to, though. I would like to spend about six years on this show and do a couple of movies, and then cash out and spend the rest of my life on a horse. That would be a good idea.
Q: Are you going to be returning to Lost?
Ian: That's the idea.
Q: Are you going to go back to the plane, before it crashed?
Ian: I don't know any of that stuff, but that's the idea. We're working it out and making it happen.
Q: Do you have any idea what the storyline would be?
Ian: I have no clue. And, I probably won't know until the day I get there. That is the one thing that I am really curious about. Over the years, those guys have gotten so smart to not tell actors anything because we talk to you guys.
Q: Were you surprised when you got the call about returning to the show?
Ian: We had spoken about it for awhile, and then I hung out with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse at Comic-Con and we came to the conclusion that this will happen. So, we're just working out the details. The problem is just the dates. Honolulu is really far from Atlanta, and I'm on the schedule every day with The Vampire Diaries. Usually, when I would go back to do an episode of Lost, it was a seven-day vacation with a great hotel suite on the beach, lots of per diem, a convertible to drive around in and massages. This is going to be a red eye from Atlanta to Hawaii, getting off the plane, shooting, crashing and then going back.
Q: Are you excited to revisit Boone?
Ian: One last time, yeah. It will be fun. I just can't wait.
Q: Is it nice to know that you'll be able to play a part in closing out this show that you helped get started?
Ian: Yeah. Hopefully, it will be different and Boone can get his power back. There was always some element of solidarity in him. It was just never able to be played out. But, I could be completely wrong. He could just be the same push-over he was.
Q: Have you kept up with the show at all, as the seasons have progressed?
Ian: I haven't been able to, as much as I'd like to. But, I'm going to do some major catching up, before I go down there.
Q: What is The Tournament, and who do you play in that?
Ian: I wish it would come out. It's a lot of fun. It's a very shoot-em-up movie that's a battle royale. It's a contemporary assassin movie, but it's a lot of fun. Ving Rhames, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Hu are also in it. There are a lot of bullets and stuff. My character is equally, if not worse than Damon. And, I had never played that guy before, so it was fun.
Q: What is How to Make Love to a Woman?
Ian: I haven't seen the film. It was a great script and a lot of fun. That guy was the complete opposite. He's a really sweet advertising executive who was a childhood friend of Krysten Ritter's character. He's this really sweet guy. He had no bad intentions at all.
Q: When you're back at home, where do you like to go in L.A.?
Ian: My house is right off the beach, on the border of Venice and Santa Monica. It is just the most beautiful neighborhood in the world. I love both the dark and the light of it. I spend every morning and every evening on the beach, and in my favorite local neighborhood spots. Everyone knows each other, and you never drive. The only time I drive is to go to Whole Foods or the dry cleaners, or to go into the city.
Q: Do you like the Boardwalk?
Ian: I am on the Boardwalk every day of my life. It never ceases to be more fun than just getting on your beach cruiser and cruising down the Venice Boardwalk.
Q: Are you really missing it while you're in Atlanta?
Ian: I've only been in Atlanta for a couple of weeks now, and there's a very definite difference. It was 98 degrees when I left, with 75% humidity.
Q: Do you get recognized from Lost, when you're there?
Ian: Yeah. I was just talking to Matthew Fox a couple weeks ago, and he was in the most northern tip of Scotland and was amazed that he was recognized. With something like Lost, you could be hiding in the desert in Egypt and someone would go, "Hey, are you that guy?"

Casting News:
The CW's new fall series, The Vampire Diaries, is casting a new series regular to debut in episode six. The character, Alaric Saltzman, is a fan favorite from the series of books upon which the series is based. He is a young twenty-something history teacher whom executive producer Kevin Williamson described to me as "hot." The series will also be casting several local residents in Virginia, where the show shoots, to play several townspeople, including students' parents, the town sheriff and a pastor. Applicants must not have an aversion to sharp pointy teeth.

Vampire Diaries - Early Pilot Review (http://spoilertv.blogspot.com/2009/08/vampire-diaries-early-pilot-review.html)
In the dead of night, a couple navigates an abandoned country road. They are young, beautiful and dressed in accordance with the latest fashions. Suddenly, a fog rolls in over the car and their romantic banter. The woman screams out a warning but, alas, it’s too late, and their car strikes a solitary figure half obscured by the fog. In a panic, the man rushes from the car, dropping to the ground next to the crumpled body. He feels for a pulse, but of course the fallen man has none. Within seconds though, their rolls are reversed, and victim becomes victor. The figure in the fog is, naturally, a vampire, and the comely couple his next meal. So begins the pilot episode of the CW’s latest supernatural teen drama, Vampire Diaries.
In the wake of such successes as HBO’s True Blood and the Twilight films, it’s no surprise that the folks over at the C Dub were eager for a fanged franchise of their very own. (Also, let’s not forget Joss Whedon’s innovative Buffy and Angel series, which offered sexy vampire angsting before vampire angsting was in.) It’s also no shock that the CW execs turned to existing source material in search of such a prize. Vampire Diaries is based on a ‘90s book series by author L.J. Smith. Despite their unfortunate cover art, the books offer some striking characters, more than a few surprising twists and turns and a cool new vampire mythology. They also possess a fun, sardonic humor to mitigate the melodrama and several strong female characters, which are sorely lacking from the Twilight enterprise.
Vampire Diaries in both its forms revolves around beautiful high-schooler Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and the vampire brothers keen on infiltrating her ordinary if tragedy-laced life—she’s just lost both parents in a car crash. Dobrev is likeable enough, even if the books do a better job of conveying Elena as the sad but popular beauty who doesn’t hesitate to use both friend and foe in achieving her ends. (She manages to charm rejected boyfriend Matt into helping her land new lover Stefan; despite these manipulations, Elena is more willfully oblivious than cruel.) Dobrev’s Elena is a little pale, and we can’t help wondering who she was before losing her parents.
In a wise turn, the CW replaced book-Elena’s cute-but-boring baby sis with drug-abusing teenage brother Jeremy, played with a quiet yet pained intensity by Steven R. McQueen. Dobrev and McQueen seem to have a decent rapport, even if the scene in which Elena confronts Jeremy over his drug use feels a little after-school special. Happily, the producers kept best friend Bonnie Bonnett (Katerina Graham) in the picture. A budding psychic with a quick humor, Bonnie provides more than just a sounding board for Elena’s boyfriend-drama.
Of course no vampire drama would be complete without some fanged fiends in attendance. Vampire Diaries offers forever-young brothers and former Mystic Falls residents, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Played by Paul Wesley and Lost’s Ian Somerhalder respectively, the brothers—and vowed enemies—take opposite views on the whole bloodsucking thing. Wesley’s Stefan is a brooding Boreanaz-type who snacks on squirrels instead of humans. Returning to his hometown for unknown reasons, strong-jawed Stefan is immediately drawn to Elena. After a pleasant chat in the town cemetery, Elena and Stefan quickly bond over their shared prettiness and the fact that both keep diaries. (No one at the CW suggested a blog?) Of course, for Stefan the connection is strengthened by the fact that Elena looks a strange lot like a former lover.
Although Damon doesn’t show up until late in the first episode, his presence adds a much-needed element of, well, fun. “Your hair’s different. I like it,” Damon deadpans upon seeing his brother again. Playing the unapologetic quipping evil to Stefan’s sad fang-face, Damon promises a lifetime of misery before tossing Stefan around the house some for good measure. These are brothers with a darkly emotional history, and poor (or is it lucky?) Elena seems to have landed smack in the middle. Hopefully she’ll succeed in holding her own while caught between this supernatural pair.
Vampire Diaries, or the unfortunately acronymed VD, looks like it will make an interesting addition to the fall lineup. The characters—even the bloodsucking ones—seem less evil than the kids on Gossip Girl or The Hills, and if the pilot is any indication, the producers aren’t against a little violence and gore. Some of the dialogue is plainly bad, and the diary device a little hokey. Elena explains about her poor dead parents a few too many times throughout the episode. Still, Vampire Diaries has several things going for it, not the least of which is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. (“He has that romance novel stare,” Bonnie jokes re: new guy Stefan.) The CW might not be offering anything dramatically new with this series; it’s Romeo and Romeo and Juliet, and both Romeos are dead. Still, so far Vampire Diaries is doing a solid job with the old fare.

Latest from Kristin:
Courtney in Tucson, Ariz.: I just started reading The Vampire Diaries, and oh my goodness they are fantastic! Do you have any idea on how closely the new TV series will follow these wonderful books?
You'll see a number of differences right off the bat in the first ep. First, Elena's very young sister has been replaced by a troubled teen brother, and the siblings are returning to high school several months (as opposed to several years in the book) after their parents' deaths. TV Elena is the virtual opposite of book Elena: the blue-eyed blonde is now a Bella-like brunette. As for the vampires, instead of his romantic rooftop boarding-house quarters, Stefan lives with an "uncle" (another nonexistent character in the first novel)—but Damon is definitely eee-vil, beginning with the gruesome opening scene. Other characters and relationships have been slightly tweaked as well—for better or worse? We're dying to hear what you think, so be sure to let us know after the Sept. 10 premiere!

StarPulse (http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2009/08/21/vampire_diaries_creator_is_excited_and_e) has up an article with some quotes from executive producer Kevin Williamson. In it is a nice new little tidbit explaining why Elena keeps a written journal in an age of computers and online blogging:
Even the concept of the diary is a bit quaint to modern day kids. “A lot of people write journal on a computer now, but Elena’s mother is the one who gave her that journal and explained to her the importance of journaling. So she writes in her journal. It is a connection to her mother. It is really a nice way to sort of open up a story, begin a story and close a story. It is a really great bookend.”
Finally, thanks to KryptonSite (http://www.vampiresite.net/), we’ve got some new details on episode 1.5. [Ed note: Actually, it looks to be episode 1.04. Craig's calling the pilot 1.01.] The title is set to be “You’re Undead to Me”, which makes us wonder what could be going on there, and you know us… we love to speculate. We know that Elena is set to find out Stefan’s secret early on in the series, and given that Alaric Saltzman is turning up in the sixth episode it’s possible that this is an indication that the cat is out of the bag.
We also discover a few things about Bonnie and her grandmother in this episode – it’s very cool to see Bonnie’s witchy heritage being dealt with and expanded on early on. From KryptonSite:
We meet Bonnie’s grandmother “Grams” in this episode.
- Grams talks about the gifts of the witch to speak to Mother Earth and share in Her power. She says that earth, wind, air, fire, water, and “the heavens above” are all connected.
- She does magic in front of Bonnie involving water going back into a pitcher. Bonnie asks if she can be shown how to do that, and Grams tells her “absolutely”… when she is ready.
A magic fairy sent us some super high quality images from the Love Sucks shoot, and we’ve got an excellent close-up of Damon’s ring. If you look at his ring in the Love Sucks ad-campaign, it appears to have an ‘S’ on it, just like Stefan’s (http://www.vampire-diaries.net/wp-content/uploads/stefanring.jpg). We’d been assuming they both had ‘S’ for Salvatore, but this picture reveals that Damon’s ring actually has a ‘D’ on it, indicating that Stefan’s ‘S’ is for his own name rather than their surname. Nifty, huh?

Ian Interview:
Tell us about Damon, your character...
Damon is the kind of vampire we would not want to cross paths with. He's a demoniac and malefic being who attempts to corrupt his brother and push him into feeding from humans once again. Damon et Stefan are more enemies than brothers since the death of their respective loved ones, who transformed them both into vampires over 140 years ago. And when these two again fall in love, this time around with the same young woman, things will really turn bad between them...
Would you say that Damon is an anti-Edward Cullen?
Yes, absolutely. Anyway, from the little I know about the character of Edward. For I'll let you in on a secret, I've never seen Twilight... I've heard a lot about it, though, and know the general story lines. And I know that Vampire Diaries will be different from Twilight. What we've shot so far is very intense, very physical, sometimes even brutal...
Without Twilight, there would probably be no Vampire Diaries...
Yes, and we are conscious of this. Twilight is a phenomenon the like of which we rarely see, and I'm not complaining about this because thanks to it, I could make a return on the small screen. So, thank you, Twilight! [laughs]. Promise I'll soon catch up and rent the DVDs to see what it's all about. However, to those who think that Vampire Diaries is but a pale copy of Twilight, I want to remind that L.J. Smith's books, from which the show is adapted, were written before Stephenie Meyer's...
Do vampires from Vampire Diaries possess particular powers?
When Damon and Stefan are happy to merely feed on small animals such as squirrels and bunnies, their powers are quasi non-existent, even though they possess a natural extraordinary strength. But when they drink human blood, their powers are increased tenfold. For instance, my character can control people's minds. He's a master at mental manipulation. But when he can't get what he wants, he can become really angry...
In spite of his demonic side, will we get to love your character?
I hope so! Damon is the kind of person that is morally appalling, but that we can't help to love. In any case, it's my job to turn him into someone we don't want to see disappear. Beyond his cruelty, he also possesses a lot of charm and doesn't come without a sense of humour, somewhat like Spike in Buffy. Anyway, for me it's kind of orgasmic to personify such a character. With that kind of role, we can really get loose and not take ourselves too seriously. I'm having fun!
There are talks about Boone eventually returning to LOST. True or false?
It's not false. I've recently met with Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, the creators of the show, and they've asked me to come back for an episode or more. When they told me that, I jumped in the air. LOST remains my best experience as an actor, and my departure was really traumatising for me. I don't know in what form or shape Boone will be back, and I don't care. Nothing could have pleased me more than to take part of the last season of the show that has brought me so much. I've already prepared my luggage! [laughs].

Meanwhile, Vicki’s memory of the attack begins to come back to her and Damon used his power of persuasion to make her forget what happened. Meanwhile, Elena realizes she has to tell Stefan how she feels about him and the two share their first kiss as the comet lights up the sky over Mystic Falls. Finally, Damon set his sights on Caroline (Candice Accola) as his next victim. Katerina Graham and Michael Trevino also star. EW and LA Times Interview Ian:
Your character, Damon, shows up late in the first episode so we still have a lot to figure out about him. What can you tell us beyond that he’s the “bad” brother?
Well, he comes back for very specific reasons. It’s very interesting to him that there’s this girl that Stefan found. She bears a striking resemblance to someone that we knew very well a very long time ago and it is a source of animosity between us brothers. Damon is definitely a bad guy — he can wreak havoc at times — but he does have his reasons. He’s got a major beef with his brother and possibly with the town. Read More? (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/09/ian-somerhalder-spills-the-gory-details-on-the-vampire-diaries.html)
Is Damon purely evil? A lot of readers are trying to figure out how they should feel about him.
He does things that would definitely be deemed as evil, and at best, mean, at times. But he does them because he believes in what he’s doing. It would not be on the heels of someone like Kevin Williamson to write a one-dimensional character. Damon’s clearly not that. Damon is the most fun character I’ve ever played. He’s such a blast. I guarantee you he’s not gonna be a one-trick pony. Read More? (http://popwatch.ew.com/2009/09/17/ian-somerhalder-vampire-diaries/)

Halloween Episode
With all those bleeding necks on The Vampire Diaries, it’s about time Mystic Falls found a good nurse. Unfortunately, this RN is Elena (Nina Dobrev) dressed up for the October 29 Halloween episode. “There are people dressing up like vampires all around town, which is confusing. Something happens that requires the Salvatore brothers to work together to cover their tracks.”
Playing nurse in a haunted house, Elena will end up drenched in her blood and the blood of someone else. “What happens is pretty enormous,” adds coexec producer Julie Plec. “It’s our biggest thing so far. Everything that we’ve been building to with one specific character comes to a head and ultimately changes all the sibling relationships forever.”
On a lighter note, Nina and her costars might go trick-or-treating in Atlanta as the Octo-Mom and her eight kids. Nadya Suleman’s scarier than Count Dracula any day!

"Alaric è stato scelto":
After an exhaustive search, the hit CW show has cast Matt Davis to play history teacher Alaric Saltzman, a fan favorite from the books on which the series is based. Davis will debut on the November 12 episode. Asked what he was looking for in casting the role, executive producer Kevin Williamson told me a guy who is “hot.” He delivered.
You may remember hunky 31-year-old Matt from his roles on ABC’s What About Brian and as Reese Witherspoon’s beau, Warner, in “Legally Blonde.”

The CW has picked up The Vampire Diaries for a full season!
The show boasted the network’s best premiere ratings since the network’s inception and had 3.8 million viewers in its latest episode. There’s an order in for nine more episodes of the show!
Variety reports that Melrose Place also got a pick-up, but for five episodes - the hope is that Heather Locklear’s upcoming appearances will help the show win more viewers for the rest of the season.
Congratulations to both casts on the pick-ups!

Are the Vampire Diaries writers sticking to the books? For instance, will Bonnie end up with [name redacted]? — Chris
MICKEY: Whoa there, Chris, don’t ruin it for the fans who haven’t read the books! “Just because it happens in the book, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen on the show,” Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie, tells us. As for whether or not the writers plan to get Bonnie and [that person] together, it doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon. “One of the writers said I’m not going to get any action for a very long time,” says Graham. So [redacted] will have to cool his or her jets in the meantime!

Kayla (Vicky) Interview with TvGuide:
TVGuide.com: Why do you think Vampire Diaries has been so successful?
Kayla Ewell: I think vampires were already really big and we just joined the wave of success. I also think our show is different than everything else. I feel like Twilight (http://movies.tvguide.com/twilight/295116) is the PG version and True Blood (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/true-blood/294732) would be like the R-rated version. Our show is PG-13, so we get both viewers. Our vampires are so sexy; I feel like they're my favorite vampires.
TVGuide.com: Are there any divas on set yet?
Ewell: [Laughs] Not yet. To be honest with you, we've been told by hair and makeup that the guys are bigger divas than the girls. Some of the guys can be high-maintenance, but they're still awesome.
TVGuide.com: Vicki is becoming a vampire. Tells us about her journey.
Ewell: It was really fun to find out that I was becoming a vampire because I was the first to make the transition. The second thought I had was, "Oh crap, I have to do this now." I talked to some of our producers, and asked what some good movies to watch are. One I watched was Interview with the Vampire (http://movies.tvguide.com/interview-vampire/129829), to actually study how they bite people and suck their blood. You have to grow the fangs, so your gums are aching. You have to go through all the things that you're feeling physically because you're completely changing. I've never played anything animalistic before, so this has been such a fun stretch for me.
TVGuide.com: Do you feel for Ian and Paul Wesley (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/paul-wesley/262661) now that you have to do all the vampire stuff on set?
Ewell: No, not really because it's super-badass to be a vampire. The only thing that I know that they hate is the blood. It tastes horrible. It's like corn syrup and sticky. It's just the worst taste in the world.
TVGuide.com: Is Vicki a good vampire or a bad vampire?
Ewell: My take is that she's a bad vampire. Whoever you are as a person is [magnified] by 1,000 when you turn into a vampire. I'm a mini-Damon, only a female version.
TVGuide.com: Is Vicki going to be killing anyone?
Ewell: Yeah, Vicki goes on a killing spree. It's super-fun. I don't realize what's happening to me and just start acting on instinct, vampire instincts, instead of really thinking what I'm doing. It's so fun to be able to be a human, but also have the vampire tendencies.
TVGuide.com: Katerina Graham told me that the Halloween episode is very emotional.
Ewell: It is. It was emotional for everyone. We can't really say why yet. There's something that happens that's very shocking. It will be shocking to the viewers. It's going to be great; it's going to create such an uproar. It's going to make the show that much more popular and bring a lot of attention.
TVGuide.com: Would you say anyone is safe on this show?
Ewell: I would say no one is safe unless you're on the poster, which would be [Nina Dobrev (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/nina-dobrev/283252)], Paul and Ian. Even so, I think it's just really scary because on a vampire show, people do have to come in and out and die or come back to life. You're never really safe. We definitely all learned about that.
TVGuide.com: You have a vampire slayer coming in.
Ewell: Yes, Matt Davis (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/matthew-davis/165334). I'm such a fan. His character, Alaric, comes in as the new teacher because the teacher died. Damon killed the first teacher that everyone hated. [Davis] comes in as the super-hot teacher that all the kids are obsessed with. He starts to date Jenna [Sara Canning (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/sara-canning/298497)], who is Elena and Jeremy's aunt. No one realizes that he is a vampire slayer.

Kayla Interview:
Is Vicki really dead this time?
KAYLA EWELL: Sadly, yes. It’s funny because I almost died four times on the show.
Has it been hard keeping the secret?
EWELL: Yes. It’s a relief to finally be able to talk about it. People have been coming up to me in L.A. going, “Why aren’t you in Atlanta [working on the show]?” And I’m like, “Oh, I’m just here visiting my family. I had a couple of days off.” I’ve had to basically lie. But The CW and Warner Bros. wanted [my death] to be a big shock. And I think it will be.
How long have you known that Vicki would die?
EWELL: I knew very early on. But knowing it and actually going through it are two completely different things. Seven episodes is a lot of time to bond with people. Being back in L.A. has been harder than I thought it would be because this job was more special to me than any other job I’ve ever done.
So when you initially signed on you knew it was only for seven episodes?
EWELL: Yes. [Vicki's death] was something that needed to happen in order for Jeremy (Steve McQueen) to go through a transformation.

Katerina Graham Interview:
Q: In the books Bonnie and Damon seem to have grown to have a connection that lead readers to believe that there is a possible hook up or something coming for the two. What would you think if that transferred to the show?
A: As long as Bonnie evolves I’m happy. If that happens with Damon than so be it. I just am rooting for Bonnie to be the good witch.
Q: What would you like to see happen with Bonnie?
A: I love it when I get to play with my powers, so as cheesy as that sounds I want to do more cool stuff! (I think we all are ready to see more of her powers)
Q: What has been one of your favorite things in filming? Something you haven’t enjoyed?
A: One of my favorite things of filming besides the cast and crew ha definitely been the craft service. (David)He rocks! I haven’t enjoyed the down pour of rain. I had to wear a shower cap to rehearsal in front of everyone so my hair didn’t get wet.
Q: What do you look for in a role when you are looking at scripts?
A: A character different than who I am in reality. I do think I’m a kind person like Bonnie, but in reality I have a lot more edge than she does.

Kayla Ewell, who plays Vicki of course, has a given a new interview where she talks of her character and the show.
She’s given this interview after Haunted, so I don’t want to write much here, because it is obviously very full of spoilers for those who don’t know what happens with Vicki.
So, you can read the interview behind the cut.
SPOILER ALERT
Vampire Diaries’ Kayla Ewell talks about Vicki dying & a possible return. Michael Ausiello over at EW recently interviewed Kayla Ewell who plays Vicki on the CW’s new hit show “Vampire Diaries.”
In an exclusive interview with them, she talked about when she first new that her character would be killed off the show, how she felt about it,filming alternate death scenes, and a possible return for Vicki.
First, she did confirm that Vicki is really dead by stating, ” Sadly, yes. It’s funny because I almost died four times on the show.”
Next, she talked about finally being able to tell her friends the truth about not currently working on the show, since she had to keep Vicki’s death a secret. She stated, “Yes. It’s a relief to finally be able to talk about it. People have been coming up to me in L.A. going, “Why aren’t you in Atlanta working on the show?” And I’m like, “Oh, I’m just here visiting my family. I had a couple of days off.” I’ve had to basically lie. But The CW and Warner Bros. wanted my death to be a big shock. And I think it will be.”
She revealed that she knew early on that Vicki would die. She stated, “I knew very early on. But knowing it and actually going through it are two completely different things. Seven episodes is a lot of time to bond with people. Being back in L.A. has been harder than I thought it would be because this job was more special to me than any other job I’ve ever done.”
She also said she knew that when she first signed on, that it would only be for seven episodes. She stated, Yes. Vicki’s death was something that needed to happen in order for Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to go through a transformation.”
She talked about shooting her death scene, and how they had to reshoot it because of a change in script. She stated, “Funny story: In the original script, Jeremy kills Vicki. And that’s what we shot. Jeremy is forced to choose between saving the love of his life or his sister, and he chooses his sister. We shot the whole thing and I moved back to L.A. Then about a week and a half later, I got an e-mail from Kevin and coexecutive producer Julie Plec asking me to come back to Atlanta to reshoot my death scene, only this time Stefan kills me.
Finally, she gave a little insight on how a possible return for Vicki might be feasible in the future. She stated, “Anything can happen on a vampire show. Dying doesn’t necessarily mean that someone’s gone forever. In the original script, when Vicki gets staked you see her disappear into dust. But in the reshot scene that aired, Stefan pulls the stake out and Damon takes me away. So they left the ending open to interpretation.”
I was personally thinking that same think, too. I was actually thinking that they could say Stefan missed her heart,if they decided to bring her back in the future.

MICKEY: Witches and vampires aren’t the only supernatural creatures in Mystic Falls. It won’t be right away, but a major male character will reveal himself to be a werewolf. And don’t think having read the books will help you figure this one out. In fact, the werewolf in question won’t even know he’s a werewolf, initially at least.

Actress Malese Jow of kiddie TV fame (Unfabulous, Hannah Montana) is about to grow up fast. The gorgeous 18 year old is in Atlanta to begin shooting her first scene on The CW’s sexy Vampire Diaries. “She comes on as Jeremy’s smart new friend, Anna,” series creator Kevin Williamson tells me.
Hmm...just a ‘friend’? Couldn’t Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) use a friend with benefits now that his love, Vicki (Kayla Ewell), was staked through the heart by Stephan? “We’ll see how it goes,” teases Williamson. “Jeremy certainly turns her head. She gets a crush. It starts in one place and maybe ends someplace else.”
Also expect this duo to uncover a mystery.

Just Jared interviews Katerina Graham:
JJ: Hi, Katerina! How are you?
KG: Before we get started, I want to say I’m a really big fan of your blog and I go on it all the time – like an embarrassing amount of time – I hit up your site so the fact that I’m actually talking to you is a little surreal and very exciting. My publicist was telling me about all these other big interviews and he was, like, “Oh, and Just Jared” – I was, like, SHUT UP! SHUT UP! So thank you for taking the time to talk to me.
JJ: That’s flattering, thank you! And congratulations to you on all the Vampire Diaries success (http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/10/21/vampire-diaries-scores-full-season-pick-up/).
KG: Thank you! It’s a pretty surreal thing, to say the least. That kind of stuff doesn’t really happen to me so I’m just kind of taking it in. And I’m out here in Georgia, so there are no Vampire Diaries posters or anything like that. We’re pretty much sheltered – we’re just, like, “Oh, shooting a show” and we’re not feeling the magnitude of it.
JJ: You’re in Georgia right now?
KG: Yeah, I’m in Atlanta – well, I’m in midtown – my little bungalow in midtown.
JJ: Which episode are you shooting now?
KG: We’re in episode 108 (airing November 12). It’s called “History Repeating” and it’s a very heavy episode with Bonnie. I just want to stay in and focus, study my lines, break down my scenes and back story. So I’m going to stay home and be a vegetable. (laughs) Stay in and just stay on your site!
JJ: There seems to be a lot of females on the set and then there is Ian Somerhalder (http://justjared.buzznet.com/tags/ian-somerhalder) and Paul Wesley (http://justjared.buzznet.com/tags/paul-wesley). How do the guys fit in with the girls on set?
KG: Oh, they’re one of us, honey! (laughs) I’m just joking! I’ll play nice. No, they’re good. They do their own thing – they’re older than us, so they definitely have a different kind of energy. They have a more mature kind of vibe about them. The girls and I, we’re all around the same age, so we go to the movies together and we do things like that together and sometimes they come out with us, but Ian has his life and Paul has his own. But it’s great – they treat us with respect. They come in and do their job.

Thirsty for some Vampire Diaries scoop? Former Reunion eye candy Sean Faris is sinking his teeth into a juicy multi-episode arc on the fangtastic CW hit, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Faris will play Ben, an ex-high school football star-turned-bartender at the Mystic Grill. “He’s Matt’s buddy,” says a Vampire insider. “He gets entangled in the group when a broke Matt takes a job at the Mystic Grill.”
The Vamp source also hints at a possible romance between Ben and one of the show’s females. But which one? Let the speculation begin in the comments!
Sean Farris joins Vampire Diaries in a recurring role
After feasting our eyes on Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder and Zach Roerig, The Vampire Diaries has added yet another hunk in Mystic Falls for us to sink our teeth into. Model turned actor Sean Faris is joining the cast of The Vampire Diaries for a multi-episode arc.
While Faris' role is being kept under the wraps, a show insider reveals that the 27-year-old actor will play a character named Ben, an ex-high school football star-turned-bartender at the Mystic Grill.
"He's Matt's buddy," says a Vampire insider. "He gets entangled in the group when a broke Matt takes a job at the Mystic Grill."
Faris' addition on The Vampire Diaries, of course, hints at a possible romance between Ben and one of the show's female characters. Will he fall in line next to Stefan and Damon for Elena's heart? Will he get in the way of Caroline and Matt's budding friendship? Or will he serve as a love interest to another female newbie that's yet to be cast?

TVGuide.com: What did they tell you about Alaric going in?
Davis: I hopped on that plane not knowing what I was getting myself into. Alaric definitely has a past, and he’s there to add a heightened sense of tension to the story line.
TVGuide.com: Is Alaric a good guy or a bad guy?
Davis: It’s not so clearly defined. He has a dark side, and I think he’s not always going to do the right thing. How that compels him remains to be seen.
TVGuide.com: Tell me about Alaric’s secret research.
Davis: It’s of the paranormal persuasion. I’m here to play the teacher; the hobbies of my research are pretty much kept secret at this point.

Get Ready for a Vampire Diaries Marathon
CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH THE CW AND “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES” WEEK-LONG MARATHON, BEGINNING MONDAY, DEC. 14
The CW to Rebroadcast All 10 Episodes of Freshman Hit “The Vampire Diaries,” 2 Episodes Each Night (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT), Monday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 18
November 16, 2009 (Burbank, CA) ─ The CW Network today announced plans for a special Vampire Diaries Marathon starting on Monday, December 14. This week- long event offers fans the opportunity to relive The Vampire Diaries saga from the very beginning and allows the uninitiated the chance to get into one of TV’s breakout hits.
Airing two episodes each night from Monday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 18 (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT) beginning with the season premiere episode, The CW will rebroadcast every episode of its smash hit The Vampire Diaries in consecutive order across its entire primetime schedule that week. After just 10 episodes, The Vampire Diaries has become The CW’s most watched and highest rated series among adults 18-34 this season.
Based on the best-selling series of books by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. Beautiful high school student Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”) has no way of knowing that the handsome and mysterious new boy in school, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, “Mad Men”), is a centuries- old vampire. While Stefan struggles to live peacefully among humans, his older brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder, “Lost”) is the embodiment of vampire violence and brutality. Now these two vampire brothers ─ one good, one evil ─ are at war for Elena’s soul and for
the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls.

Will the November 19 Vampire Diaries cliffhanger “keep fans a little bit crazy in the head during” the show’s winter break? That’s what coexecutive producer Julie Plec tells TV Guide Magazine she hopes for the shocking ep that featured Elena (Nina Dobrev) finding Katherine’s photo after spending the night with Stefan (Paul Wesley). She takes off, crashes her car and is trapped as a shadowy figures approaches. Will she survive? Plec also gives us a peek of what to expect when the show returns in January. SPOILER ALERT!
What’s happening when Diaries opens its pages again in January?
Our first episode back is a very Damon and Elena-centric story. The two of them go off on a little adventure and bond in a way she didn’t think they were capable of. Having left her necklace behind with the vervaine, the question is: is Damon taking Elena along of her own free will or is he controlling her to enjoy the experience. Also, Gina Torres (Firefly, 24) guest stars as a witch that Damon goes to visit.
Sounds like you’re building toward a romantic triangle?
Yes. The interesting thing about the Damon/Stefan/Elena triangle is that Damon’s heart belongs to Katherine forever and always. But as we go through the rest of the season, he’s going to get to know Elena better and better. And can Elena and Stefan’s relationship survive her learning the truth about Katherine? Damon never lied to her and didn’t’ have sex with her. At least not yet.
How about the mystery vampire?
Who he is and what he wants is our next big step. We’ll also learn whether the tomb can be happened and what would happen if he does.
What’s going to happen with newbie witch Bonnie?(Katerina Graham)
Just as she’s having the very human experience of coming of age, she has to deal with the fact that she is a witch. She tries to run away from it at first, but she’s going to embrace it and let it control her so she can learn how to control it. She’s going to be very powerful.
Since, as you all say, Vicki is really really dead, will there be any more major demises?
Kevin Williamson likes to say that nobody’s safe. If we couldn’t kill people, we wouldn’t be a vampire show.
Will there be any girls who get turned and have time to savor their vampire-ness longer than poor Vicki?
Anyone who’s read the books knows the answer to that question.
So Elena will become a vampire?
Yes, but that’s certainly not in the cards [for the show] any time soon. As the series gets older and deeper, there is room for a female vampire who’s turned, who doesn’t necessarily have to be a psychotic crazy person.
What’s next for the two characters most affected by Vicki’s death, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen)?
So far they’re led to believe that she’s just gone and screwed up. Eventually the truth about what really happened to her will come out and rock everybody’s world. It’s going to change a lot of relationships. In the meantime, we’ll be digging into where do Matt and Caroline (Candice Accola), these two unlikely partners, go in their relationship. Jeremy has a new friend/father figure in the form of the new history teacher Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis). We’re not really sure what he’s doing in Mystic Falls and what his game is. He’s got a surprising backstory. And finally, we still have to discover who turned Logan Fell (Chris J. Johnson) into a vampire.

Stefan and Damon are about to get a father on The CW's The Vampire Diaries... and he looks an awful lot like Dexter's Harry Morgan. Actor James Remar, 55, who first stared playing Dexter's dad in 2006, will be flying to Atlanta on Dec. 2 to begin his role as Giuseppe Salvatore, papa to bloodsucking sons Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The busy actor also plays a big role in Dexter's bloody Dec. 13 season finale, and that same night, plays a father mourning a child in Lifetime's original holiday tearjerker, The Christmas Hope.
Keck: You seem like a great choice to play Papa Salvatore. How did you get the role?
Remar: I was brought in by Marcos Siega, who has directed several episodes of Dexter and Vampire Diaries. He's now the show runner on Vampire Diaries and thought I'd be right for this role.
Keck: What have they told you about this guy, Giuseppe?
Remar: He's an aristocrat in the 1860's of Italian decent. It's the Civil War Era and it's about how he relates to his boys.
Keck: Is he a vampire himself?
Remar: Not at the outset, no. But one of his boys has been bitten by the girl he loves.
Keck: Is it just the one episode?
Remar: I think it's going to be more than one.
Keck: Are you a vampire fan yourself?
Remar: Sure. I really think Gary Oldman knocked it out of the park as Count Dracula (in 1992's Dracula).
Keck: Switching gears, describe your role in Lifetime's The Christmas Hope.
Remar: It was an opportunity to work again with Madeleine Stowe, who I did a (1994) movie with called Blink. I admire her. And this was the kind of part I haven't played before. He's an airline pilot who's flown all his life and he and his wife lose their only child. It's a demonstration of how deep grief can effect a relationship. They're in a tough position and have shut down, but then a little girl who has lost her mom comes to stay with us for Christmas. That sparks our parental instincts and draws us back together.
Keck: Where did you shoot it?
Remar: In Winnipeg in the dead of winter, so it looked very Christmas-y. But even though it looks like Christmas, no one in this family is particularly feeling like celebrating.
Keck:Any other TV projects coming up?
Remar: I'm filming an episode of Numbers now as a billionaire arms dealer who doesn't seem to care much about the weapons he sells.
Keck: And then of course there's your role on Dexter, which has even more blood than Vampire Diaries. What's coming up?
Remar: I have a big scene in the last episode of the season.
Keck: Which I hear is a very, very bloody one.
Remar: I can't say anything out of respect to the audience. But watch!

Zach Roerig Q&A Interview With Starry Constellation Magazine (http://vampirediariesonline.com/zach-roerig/zach-roerig-qa-interview-with-starry-constellation-magazine/)
Q. In a previous interview we did with Katerina Graham she mentioned you had a project you were working on with the Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. Can you tell us a little bit about it and why it’s so important to you?
A. Why it’s so important for starters is that we’re in Atlanta right now and none of us had really been based out of Atlanta and now our show is floating off of the charts with filming here in Atlanta. I decided it would be nice to give something back to Atlanta. They’ve been so cool to us with having us in their city. I love kids and I know that everyone else on the set loves kids.
Q. In an interview Julie Plec did with Soap Opera Weekly she said that, “One character that won’t be on the roller coaster is the show’s most steadfast guy, Matt, that he’s such a good guy in the book that they didn’t want to mess with that. She went on to say that in most shows you don’t get the hot, well-liked athlete who happens to be a good person with a good heart.” What are your thoughts on her comment about that because there it’s rare to find that truly great guy on TV, that Matt shouldn’t be messed with?
A. Two reasons I don’t think Matt should be messed with. First, because TV needs a nice guy like Matt, a guy that is pure and doesn’t have a motive at the end of the day. Second, you never, ever want to mess with the most polite, quiet athlete type because you know they’re always hiding some kind of secret and by the time you try to mess with them all hell will break loose. I think Matt’s got some hidden rage, I mean look at his life, he’s never exhibited any ounce of anger or emotion and so I feel like it’s going to be a Ned Flanders kind of explosion.
Q. You and many of the other cast members are on Twitter and have a lot of interaction with the fans of the show. Why is it important for you to reach out to the fans this way?
A. Twitter, to me honestly, is really easy. I have been horrible with fan mail my entire career. I think you really have to be diligent about it and stay on it and I never was. With Twitter, it’s so easy, I can see what the fans are saying. Should I choose to comment on it, I can, and I feel like it’s the easiest way for me to contact the fans.
Q. Where do you draw from for your portrayal of Matt?
A. I am from the Midwest, I’m from Ohio, and there are guys like Matt all over where I’m from. They always put the woman first and family comes first. Matt is small town and I grew up in a small town.
Q. We have seen a few photos and articles about the female cast members hanging out together outside of the show, but not too much of the guys. Do the male cast members get together outside of the set as well?
A. Definitely! The girls and the guys, we all hang out together, it’s just that Ian and Paul work all the time. Their only free time is on the weekend, they are constantly doing press and stuff like that. Ian and I have a lot in common, we’re actually going to spend some time together over this Thanksgiving, and Michael Trevino I hang out with all of the time. Paul Wesley is a pretty cool guy too though, we all get along.

MegaBuzz Spoiler:
Any Vampire Diaries scoop? — Ronnie
MICKEY: What if I were to tell you that Elena will soon find herself in the romantic company of a Salvatore brother not named Stefan? Said Salvatore introduces her to a friend who allowed himself to be “turned” by his vampire lover, which gets the hamster wheels in Elena’s pretty, pretty head spinning.
Zach Roerig Interviews With The VRO and Betty Confidential (http://vampirediariesonline.com/zach-roerig/zach-roerig-interviews-with-the-vro-and-betty-confidential/):
People in Mystic Falls — including your character’s sister Vicki (Kayla Ewell) — are dying left and right. Does that scare you that you could be killed off at any time?
Are you kidding? Any time I read a script that says, “Matt goes into a room followed by Damon [Ian Somerhalder],” I get worried. But on the very first table read for the show, our supervising producer said, “We love you all, but this is The Vampire Diaries — it’s not Stefan’s Diaries or Elena’s Diaries or anyone else’s diaries, so everyone stay on your toes.” We all knew then and there that we could go at any time. I mean, come on, anything’s possible when you have vampires around!
When Matt finds out Vicki’s dead, is he going to go after Damon and Stefan [Paul Wesley]?
Matt’s definitely going to seek redemption. I’m not sure he’s going to know what direction to go in, but he won’t stop till he figures it out. It may not mean staking a vampire in the heart, but he’ll do something. I’m just waiting to see what’s in store for the rest of the series. It started out focusing on Elena, Damon and Stefan, but Bonnie [Katerina Graham] and her witchy ways are going to become a bigger part of the show; the town’s people who are trying to secretly hunt for vampires will be out in force; there are new characters popping up, so there’s a lot more to come. I’m just as excited as the viewers to see it unfold.

The Vampire Diaries will start the new year with another hot guest star, Dillon Casey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2107055/) (recently seen in Being Erica and showing off his assets in MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives). According to executive producer Julie Plec, he’ll be playing a character named Noah who becomes obsessed with Elena, much to Stefan’s concern. Looks like the path to true love is going to be as rocky (http://vampirediariesonline.com/#) as ever for Elena and Stefan.

"StarryMag" interviews Michael about Tyler, fans & the Southern lifestyle (http://www.vampire-diaries.net/tvseries/starrymag-interviews-michael-about-tyler-fans-the-southern-lifestyle)
Q. Where do you continue to draw from for your portrayal of Tyler?
A. It's tricky because we have so many characters, and there are so many different storylines that we tell, I really have no idea where Tyler is headed. The producers don't tell us much, they don't tell me much. I'm still in the dark about everything, so I don't know exactly where I am headed or how I should be, but they haven't told me anything so I guess I am doing things right. I know it seems on the surface that he's someone who has a high temper and snaps at everybody and has a mean streak in him and that's it, that he's just that bully guy that everybody knew in high school. Really in the scheme of things, you're going to see a different side to him. He can't control himself, and although he comes from a family that is well off with his father being the Mayor and being one of the founding families and has a lot of money, it seems like he's still on his own. He doesn't have much of a support group and that's kind of where I come in on that. On the outer surface it seems like maybe he comes from a family that's well off, he is very isolated, and not really close with his parents because they're dysfunctional in their own right. Just kind of keeping him on the surface, that there is something boiling down inside of him, and to kind of keep that a secret and not giveaway too much with his interactions with others.
Q. What do you think it is about the show "The Vampire Diaries" that continues to garner so many viewers?
A. It's that we're on the CW network, but we're still very dark and we do have this Sci-Fi element and we live in Mystic Falls that has this crazy mythology about the town, but also these characters are rooted very deeply, they are real characters. Even though we have some that might be vampires and some that are witches, they don't act like vampires or witches to a certain extent. They are still just regular people that have these dark secrets or they're kind of just getting to know their character. I think that fans gravitate towards that, they like to identify with each one of us in some way or another, and that's what brings them in. We have amazing writers, things are edgy, and the way the show is written with every episode just seeming to have this intro and then we go through the show and leave you off with a cliff hanger, it's just nail biting. We leave you with wanting more every week and they want to know answers to all of these questions that we give you. I think that's why everybody is tuning in.
Q. "The Vampire Diaries" is filmed in Atlanta, how does the slow Southern lifestyle compare to your life in Los Angeles?
A. I am a California kid born and raised in East Los Angeles, so for me, it was a change of pace. It's slower, things are just slower in Atlanta, but the Southern hospitality was huge for me. Not to say that in LA people are mean, because I've lived out here my whole life, but to meet new people and experience Southern food and to actually experience seasons, I've said this is so many interviews, in LA my winter is maybe it being seventy degrees at night or sixty-five, to me that's cold. Now I'm actually seeing leaves fall and when we were in Atlanta in July it was humid and hot but now it's really, really cold over there. Just to experience that for me personally, since I never had experienced it before, is something really nice, it's a change, and I am having a lot of fun out there.
Q. The cast essentially films at night, is this something that was hard for you to adjust to?
A. For me not really, I'm a bit of a night owl, I'm a night person, I am not really a morning person. As far as having late, long night shoots, I'm okay with it. I get kind of sluggish and tired every now and then but I don't mind shooting at night. I think by now especially we've all gotten used to it especially towards the end of the week when we're working way into the early morning like five or six in the morning when it's still dark and we're out there going. I guess the cold is the only thing that changes, it'll be getting colder and colder as the months go by.
Q. In upcoming episodes you'll be seen as a werewolf, will there be any special costume making you'll have to put on and how do you feel about this upcoming transformation?
A. I'm going to say no comment, I plead the fifth on that.
Q. What do you find challenging about your role as Tyler?
A. I kind of touched on this in an earlier question, just him not being so one note. He's either always upset at somebody or upset at some thing or he's picking on Jeremy and he and Jeremy are getting into a scuffle. I think especially in the last episode that we aired, you saw the interaction between Jeremy and Tyler's dad, Mayor Lockwood. It kind of showed a different side of Mayor Lockwood, he has a bit of a mean streak. Right now I am doing this transition where I don't want to just show he's upset or he's mean just to be mean. This kid can't control himself, there is something else going on inside of him that is just a temper, and he can't control it but he wants to. I know especially in the earlier episodes it seemed like Tyler was a recluse and didn't care about anybody, but now he does care, and there is a transformation where he has no clue what's going on with him. He tries to fight it but he can't win, it's like he's just fighting with himself, and he wants to control it but he can't. It's almost like he's upset with himself, hopefully that's what's coming across on screen. That's where I am at right now, just switching it up a little bit and being very subtle with him just kind of fighting himself at the end of the day.
Q. Viewers got to see a glimpse of Tyler's relationship with his father in episode ten, will we get to see a deeper look into that relationship?
A. I think we will, I think we will. When we see the first episodes when we come back, we still go in the arc of Bonnie's character in dealing with her witchcraft and her family lineage, we're still going to go into that as well as some flashback episodes. I think after that, which will be a couple of weeks, it'll be a little bit but then we'll start to get more into my parents and also my relationship with the other characters. Definitely, it's going to be coming down in the end, but it is a long process in the end like I said. Fans of Tyler are just going to have to be a little patient.
Q. Do you have a latest obsession? Are you into any particular music group, book, activity, or sport?
A. I'm really looking forward to going snowboarding right now, which living in Atlanta I didn't get in much snowboarding at all. I am a big snowboarder so I like to go to Big Bear Mountain in California, which is such an easy drive, it's about an hour and a half. I am actually going snowboarding tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to that! If I was in Los Angeles I would be going a lot, and now that I am back visiting, it's definitely one of my top priorities with trying to do a couple of runs on the mountain.
Q. You and many of the other cast members are on Twitter and have a lot of interaction with the fans of the show. Why is it important for you to reach out to the fans this way?
A. We're in the age of social networking with Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, and people having their own personal blogs. We really want to remain a mystery, but there is a part of us that kind of has to be easily accessible to fans. Especially me personally, I think you have to take advantage of that to a certain degree, to be able to reach out to as many of your fans as you can on a personal level. Fans are why we do what we do and through social networking sites it makes it that much easier. Everybody is used to fan mail but now you can hit a Facebook or Twitter page and you can respond to thousands of fans be it through a click of a button and it's only going to take a couple of minutes. It's really convenient and I enjoy it a lot, hearing and reading feedback about the show in general with what fans are liking and what they are not liking. I think that from the cast we're all a part of Twitter, we like it, we like reading them and we like reaching out and answering questions as much as we can.
Q. What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A. I just love everybody at "The Vampire Diaries" and I am so blessed to be on the show and to work with such great actors that I can say I am a personal friend of. We have an amazing crew in Atlanta and our producers and writers here in Los Angeles who work day in and day out to the wee hours of the morning writing these amazing scripts. I am just happy to be a part of it, but again, all of the fans, we have this big following and I am hoping that it only gets bigger in the new year. I like being on hiatus but I want to get back to work so we can start getting back into the swing of things and bounce ideas off of each other. I want to thank all of the fans for watching and supporting. We love you and we do it for you and send us your questions! Hit us up on Twitter and we'll try and get back to you as much as we can.
Vampire Diaries - Casting News
Here’s proof that the TV biz hasn’t completely closed up shop for the holidays: L Word and 24 alum Mia Kirshner has just inked a deal to join the cast of The Vampire Diairies on a recurring basis, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Kirshner will be playing the role of Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of Matt Davis’ history teacher, Alaric. Through the magic of reshoots, the actress will debut in Jan. 21 episode, the first one back after the break.

Mia Kirshner Spoiler (Watch With Kristen):
We’re about to find out on Vampire Diaries, because sources tell me there’s much more to the casting news that just broke about Mia Kirshner (24, The L Word) joining the cast for a recurring role.
While it’s true she’s playing Isobel, the wife of Matt Davis’ ridiculously named schoolteacher character Alaric, she might already not be of this world…
<!-- internal videos / html on top --><!-- external videos / html on top --><!-- audio player --><!-- gallery preview--><!-- custom polls --><!-- movie review grade wrapper (can't think of a better way to do this) --><!-- movie review grade -->According to my sources, Kirshner will appear on the series beginning Jan. 21, but her scenes won’t be in present-day. They will be in flashbacks because her character Isobel is already dead.
And you’ll never guess who killed her. No really, go ahead, try! Though my sources have asked me not to spoil the big twist outright, suffice it to say that Isobel died at the hands of a main (hot) character we already know. (Did I mention hot?)

Vampire Diaries - Melinda Clarke Casting News
Julie Cooper’s comin’ to Mystic Falls!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Vampire Diaries has tapped the inimitable Melinda Clarke (The O.C., CSI) to play Kelly Donovan, Matt’s irresponsible, hard-drinking absentee mother.
How rotten is this woman? She didn’t even bother to show up to her own daughter’s funeral. (In other words, my kind of gal!)
I’m told Clark’s scenery-chewing boozehound will blow into town in March and stick around for at least three episodes.
Memo to Kevin Williamson: Let’s get that series regular paperwork started now!

Beautiful Sara Canning has taken America by storm in her role as Jenna in the CW's smash hit, and People's Choice award winner for favorite new drama, The Vampire Diaries. She gave RadarOnline.com all the new details about her upcoming onscreen romance and her new real-life roommate.
"I was living on my own for the first part of the season," Sara said about her arrangements in Atlanta, Georgia, where the show shoots. But now she has plans to room with co-star Nina Dobrev.

"Nina lived with Kayla who was on the show as well. I hear she is a fantastic roommate and I love her, so it will be great."
Canning, a Canadian native, faced some changes when she relocated to the south to play the level headed aunt and guardian to Debrov's character Elena.

"At first it was the heat in the summer, I couldn't believe how hot it was when I got off the plane I was like... ok, what the hell do I do in this weather? I packed all my jeans away and bought like 15 dresses as soon as I got off the plane. It's kind of sexy and once you get used to it, it's kind of nice."
Although it's Canning's first time living in America she says the actors on the show are a great support.
"We're really lucky to have a cast that gets along so well, everyone is really close. In the summer we used to go to the lake all the time on weekends," she gushed. "Now, we actually just hang out at each others apartments and stuff or we'll go out to dinner or go to movies."

While shooting The Vampire Diaries the actors spend much of their time in thick fog and in dark graveyards which help set the spooky mood.
"Some of the locations are really, really creepy. You don't have to use too much of your imagination. In fact, one night when I was driving with Kayla, the fog started coming in out of nowhere and we were like oooooohhhh, 'when is Damon going to pop out?'"
Canning is definitely having fun with her role despite not being one of the high school characters. "I think Jenna is really fun to play because she is a parental figure on the show but is still really young herself," the 22-year old actress said. "She is really feisty, spirited, and headstrong. And she's still going through those rough patches with guys."
Speaking of boys, she told RadarOnline.com that the relationship with a mysterious new history teacher will be heating up this season.
"He's very handsome, they are just getting to know each other," she said. "He's played by Matt Davis who is hysterical and I love working with him. I think we'll see that relationship develop quite a bit over the next few episodes."

Leighton Meester to Vampire Diaries and Nina Dobrev to Gossip Girl?
Good news if you are a fan of Leighton Meester and Nina Dobrev: Their executive producer has promised to “work on” getting these real-life friends to guest star on each other’s CW shows.
Here’s what Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl executive producer Bob Levy tells me:
“I love that idea!” Levy said of having Nina guest star on Gossip Girl and Leighton guest star on Vampire Diaries some time in the future. The idea came up while I was chatting with Nina and Levy at a recent press event, and Levy said: “We’re gonna work on that. You have my word.”
Leighton and Nina became friends while shooting the upcoming big-screen movie The Roommate, set to come out later this year. And Nina told me she would jump at the chance to make a guest appearance on the Upper East Side. “Oh my god, I would love to be on Gossip Girl,” Nina said. “I feel like it’s hard to do because we’re both so busy. But I would love to, and I would for her to be on our show. Leighton would make a great vampire, I think!”
The hitch, of course, is working out the logistics, given that Vampire Diaries shoots in Atlanta and Gossip Girl shoots in New York. “The trick is tearing Nina away from Atlanta,” Levy explained. “She’s in almost every scene of every episode. So it’s hard scheduling-wise to work that out. But I love that pitch! Good pitch. We’re gonna work to make it happen.”

It's not opening. Oh, ya know, no one's in there. None of that. That tomb gets opened and there are vampires in that tomb and some crazy stuff goes down in that tomb. And a lot of big, bad things are revealed as a result of that tomb being opened and there's a very tragic outcome."
Now in the Vampire Diaries world tragic outcome usually implies major death and in the official CW press release it is stated that grams helps them open the tomb. Now they're not going to kill any of the series regulars since we know them to be featured in upcoming plots. And it is insanely unlikely that they'll kill someone like Alaric so soon. Plus Bonnie's cousin is joining the show soon perhaps her reason for visiting mystic falls is- Grams' funeral? Agree? Disagree? vote and comment below

Spoiler SPOILERTV:
Morgan on Vampire Diaries-I can’t wait 6 weeks for Vampire Diaires to return! Please give some spoilers on the returning episode ” A Few Good Men”.
Matt and Vicki’s mother will appear. Also expect more Mia Kirshner.
Jesper on Vampire Diaries-Hi there! I’m wondering if Katherine is coming back to Mystic falls anytime soon, that would to awesome.
Eventually…Vampire Diaries is kind of slow in it’s production schedule so not as much is known (or has even been decided) about the rest of the season compared to say Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill which are currently wrapped up their seasons. Expect the Katherine storyline to extend beyond the season.
Sasha on Vampire Diaries-Her grandmother has died and she helped Stefan and Damon open the
tomb… so what’s next for The Vampire Diaries’ Bonnie Bennett?
A major fight with Elena
WATCH WITH KRISTIN:
A picture is worth a thousand words, and at least 500 of those would be hot and smoldering when it comes to Ian Smolderhotter Somerhalder.
And when a photo is combined with the headline above, it says these words too:
Spoiler Alert! Ian just might pop back up on Lost again—Praise Jacob!—but not before he scores a point or two over Stefan (with Nina Dobrev’s Elena) on The Vampire Diaries. What’s that other word again? Oh yeah: Woo.
Here’s the latest on Lost and Vampire Diaries, plus dish on The Office,The Bachelor, Brothers & Sisters and more…
Mae in Atlanta: Please tell me some of the sexy Vampire Diaries stars are hooking up in real-life!
Not so, says Candice Accola (Caroline). “There’s so much heat going on onscreen—we’re all just a family,” Candice tells us with a laugh. “I wish there was some juice or some crazy things going down, but not really. We disgustingly all just get along, and no one’s dating.” So apparently all the drama is happening on the show? Hmph! (Check the spoiler section below for that.)
Monica: Damon and Stefan for the win! Any scoop on Vampire Diaries?
Sorry, but I only have some good news for you Damon-Elena shippers: Stefan may get a taste of human blood again soon, which may change his personality a bit, and I can’t imagine that goes over well with good girl Elena. Katherine, on the other hand, would love it, right? Also, you’ll never guess whose body is going to be found? Vicki! So this means that (a) she really is dead and not coming back as boss Kevin Williamson told us and (b) Jeremy is so gonna find everything out, right? That has to be where all this is heading, given that he’s realizing that there are vampires in Mystic Falls. The only question is: What will Damon do when he is found out? Shudder.

TV Guide.com Mega Buzz (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Buzz-Scoop-1015363.aspx) has some scoop on Elena and her search for her mom.
Let me ask this Vampire Diaries (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/vampire-diaries/297527) question directly: Who is Elena’s mother? — Tanya
MICKEY: Wouldn’t you like to know? So would Elena, which is why she looks up some of Mommie Dearest’s old friends. But rather than welcome Elena and regale her with stories about the time they did body shots off the lifeguard in Rosarita, they turn out to be a wily, suspicious bunch, and they smell the vervain on Elena a mile away.

Damon e Stefan per la vittoria! Nessuno scoop su Vampire Diaries?
Kristin (E!

Vampire Diaries - Latest from Ausiello - 24th Feb 2010
Question: I am dying here without Vampire Diaries! Please give us some scoop on the Damon-Elena relationship because I am loving it! —Ash
Ausiello: Then prepare to love this season’s final strong of episodes, which exec producer Julie Plec tells me will be heavily focused on the pair. “We’ll see Damon start to look at Elena as more than just his brother’s girlfriend or the doppelganger to the love of his life,” she reveals. “He’ll start to love and understand her as a human being, which is ironic because Damon could typically give a s–t about anything involving humanity. It’s some good stuff.”

Many of the cliffhangers fans were left with when the last original episode aired will be addressed on March 25, when the next original episode, titled “A Few Good Men,” airs. Paley guests were treated to an advance screening of the episode, which (trust us) takes Damon’s cruelty to a whole new level. By the end of the hour, you’ll be left wondering how Elena can ever even speak to him again. “Some truths are revealed and the episode ends on a major bang,” teases Paul Wesley (Stefan). He’s not kidding.
With Elena (Nina Dobrev) just having learned she’s adopted, she begins a dangerous search for her birth mother, whom keen viewers know shares a connection to Alaric Saltzman. The revelations, says Nina Dobrev (Elena) will “intensify her love/hate relationship with Damon. His actions to achieve what he wants are truly horrible.”
But the episode offers more light-hearted moments, as Damon takes part in a charity bachelor auction alongside Alaric. “It’s a lot of fun,” teases Ian Somerhalder (Damon). A future episode will find Damon meeting up with Matt’s mom, Kelly (The O.C.’s Melinda Clarke) at a bar. “Much to the chagrin of Matt,” Somerhalder says. “They hit it off and end up hooking up.”
One face was absent from the episode — Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie Bennett. She’ll be off the canvas for three episodes “grieving the death of Grams”, explains creator Kevin Williamson. “She goes off to stay with family, but comes back with an attitude.”
Adds co-executive producer Julie Plec: “Bonnie’s been nothing but supportive of Elena’s relationship with Stefan up until this point, but given everything that’s happened — the tomb didn’t quite get closed and Grams died for nothing, it’s going to be difficult for her to be a good friend.”

Tv Guide Mega BUZZ:
Did Damon really kill Elena’s birth mother on The Vampire Diaries (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/vampire-diaries/297527)? I can’t help but feel like there’s more to this story. — Taryn
MICKEY: Well, yeah. When Diaries returns on March 25, we’ll learn once and for all who killed Isobel, and why. But you might be more interested in another shocking murder that takes place this spring. Don’t grieve too much for the victim; he or she will be miraculously brought back to life shortly thereafter. (For the record, we aren’t talking about a vampire “turning” here — he or she will really be alive again.)
EW Exclusive First Look at David Anders<!-- Main Image -->
Vampire Diaries execs didn’t have to cut through any bloody red tape to cast David Anders (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/02/23/vampire-diaries-david-anders-uncle/) as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, Jonathan Gilbert. “When we started talking about this role, I immediately thought, ‘What about Sark from Alias?’ executive producer Julie Plec recalls. “We called his agent the next day and the day after that [the deal was] done.”It’s fair to say Anders’ arrival in Mystic Falls will be slightly more complicated.
The Alias and Heroes alum makes his debut in the April 15 episode when it comes time for Elena and Jeremy to sell their father’s doctor office. “He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” explains fellow e.p., Kevin Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else]. His intentions are not pure.”
We wouldn’t have it any other way. Would we?

Watch With Kristin:
Maureen in Baker, Nev.: Waiting for a new episode of Vampire Diaries is the worst. Can you help me pass the time with some scoop?
We’re about to become very familiar with a creepy new vampire, says show runner Julie Plec. “We’ll meet Harper, the character coming out of the tomb in the last episode that aired, and follow him on his journey as he sets up shop in Mystic Falls and who he sets up shop with.” As for Damon and Stefan, Kevin Williamson says, “They’re going to find some common ground and build from there.” Unfortunately, their distressed brotherhood won’t work itself out overnight. But they’ve got time, right? They’re vampires!
Jackie in Seattle: I love that David Anders just jumps from one of my favorite shows to the next. What do you know about his character on Vampire Diaries?
As always, David Anders brings the bad. “He surfaces when it comes time to sell [Jeremy and Elena's] dad’s doctor’s office, but he’s [really] there because he wants something and he’ll fight to the finish to get it,” says Kevin. And speaking of Jeremy, tough times are ahead for the brainwashed brother as he continues to unravel the truth about vamps in Mystic Falls. “Jeremy’s storyline is a big storyline and takes him to a really dark place,” Julie tells me. David’s character will also serve as a guide on Jeremy’s journey.

Mega Buzz Spoiler:
Any scoop on the spring episodes of The Vampire Diaries (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/vampire-diaries/297527)? — Tina
MICKEY: This is what I think went down. After writing the umpteenth script in which Stefan said, “Elena, I will never let anything happen to you,” and Damon says, “Your happiness bores me,” one timid, but eminently clever writer (let’s call her Fran) had an idea: Opposite day! What do you think of my theory, Paul Wesley (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/paul-wesley/262661)? “Everyone possesses a dark side and I don’t think we’ve seen Stefan’s,” the actor tells us. “I think we might.”

Watch out for Special Phone Number in Episode
The CW's Vampire Diarie is finally back with all new episodes starting this Thursday at 8/7c, but here's some exciting news no one knows yet. In the episode, viewers will see Elena (Nina Dobrev) placing a call—with the phone number clearly visible on screen. Fans will be able to call this number (standard long distance fees apply) to hear a special message that will offer a tease of things to come.
So, with the episode focusing on Elena's search for her birth mother, might Elena be placing an early Mother's Day call? Or do you think she should hang up and dial Ghostbusters?
Fans will also be able to leave a message. Pretty cool, huh? If you could send a message to Elena right now, what would you tell her

BETWIXT: filming begins + VD crossover, updated cast list and plot
The CW's Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror/Thriller pilot Betwixt began filming yesterday in Canada.
Plot : For three teenagers a terrifying arcane ritual called the Ring of Fire reveals their true natures as well as their critical roles in a looming and potentially deadly other-worldy conflict. The three teenagers are Morgan Brower who transforms into a beast with fangs, claws and yellow eyes initally she wakes up in the night with dirt and blood all over her and no memory of where she'd been at night, Nix Uyarak a runaway from Alaska who lives in the woods who sees halos of light above people who are about to die and Celine Halstead who can fly.
The show is said to be more male-skewing than most CW shows (excluding Smallville and Supernatural) and is projected to be paired with the Vampire Diaries next season. It will also be heavily serialized with very dense mythology so don't expect it to be a monster of the week type show. Also there are some early talk about a crossover with The Vampire Diaries. There will be significant changes from the books including name changes ( Celine = Ordine, Cameron = TJ etc.)
Cast Josh Henderson ("Desperate Housewives") as Nix Uyarak
Jessy Schram ("Veronica Mars") as Morgan Brower
David Gallagher ("7th Heaven") as Tim Bleeker
Allison Miller ("Kings") as Celine Halstead
Austin Butler ("Life Unexpected") as Cameron Brower

How about a tiny little something on how the season finale actually and truly ends? Can you handle it? OK, proceed to read: A source tells me the very last face you will see before the screen fades to black belongs to… Elena. Will she be screaming in agony as she is buried alive? Vampire Diaries - Is Mayor Lockwood really dead?
In the finale we were left with Anna being staked by John, John being de-ringed and stabbed by Katherine, Caroline with internal bleeding in surgery and Jeremy ODing. Mayor Lockwood had his neck broken and his body was left in a burning building. However can you kill a werewolf without either shooting it with a silver bullet, or ripping it's heart out?
Also EW's May Sweeps scorecard lists the deaths being Anna and John with Jeremy also possibly dead but they do not mention Mayor Lockwood.

The CW Fall Premiere Dates
Thanks to Isabel and Aled for the heads up.
